We are excited to have Yen at the studio, hosting a beginners caricature workshop in July.

Find out more about Yen below and either pop over to our website to book (link in bio) or comment to get a direct link.

Yen is an Artist/Illustrator from Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. He runs his business Yen Ip Art Studio, hosting different creative drawing workshops for all age groups. He will be introducing in this workshop the art of "Caricatures".

Pronounced "ka-ru-kuh-chuorz" are drawings used for comical effect. The caricaturist identifies the striking features of the subject - simplifies and exaggerates the features but also captures the essence of the person's characteristics in a humorous way. The workshop will guide the learners through simple techniques to transform a normal portrait into the finished caricature. They will also get to hear Yen's stories and experiences working as a caricaturist from different venues that he was hired for at wedding receptions and birthday parties.

Yen has embarked on other new creative adventures. He will be starting his MA Illustration course in September and he will be having his first solo exhibition in October. Most importantly, he is proud to have written and illustrated his first children's picture book which he is currently on the journey to seeking publication.

You can follow his instagram Yen Ip to see his work and other projects.

How does a Victorian dock office become a maritime museum? 🏛️

When the docks moved out in the 1970s, Hull City Council took ownership of the building and decided to fill its grand domed halls with the stories of the city it had served for a century.

Collections moved over from the old Museum of Fisheries and Shipping in Pickering Park. In 1975, the doors opened as the Town Docks Museum, later renamed the Hull Maritime Museum. It's now in the final phase of its largest transformation yet.
