Message from the Commanding Officer celebrating National Volunteer Week 1-7 June 2026.

"Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much." — Helen Keller

As Commanding Officer of 39 Engineer Regiment, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to every volunteer who contributes to our Regimental community.

Our volunteers are the heart of so much that makes this Regiment more than just a place of work. Whether organising and delivering community events, producing and distributing our community newsletter, singing in our Military Wives Choir, supporting welfare activities, sharing specialist skills, or quietly helping behind the scenes, your commitment strengthens the bonds that connect us all.

You give your time, energy and expertise freely, without financial reward, simply because you care about our community and the people within it. Your efforts create opportunities for families and colleagues to come together, foster a sense of belonging, and help ensure that no one feels disconnected from the wider Regimental family.

Without your dedication, we would undoubtedly be a poorer and less connected community. Because of you, our Regiment is stronger, more inclusive and more resilient.

On behalf of everyone at 39 Engineer Regiment, thank you for all that you do. Your contribution is deeply valued, greatly appreciated, and makes a lasting difference to us all.

Thank you

39 Engineer Regiment marks a significant transition in the senior soldier position as the appointment of Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) passes from Capt Joe Ferries RE to WO1 (RSM) Steve Waddell RE

Currently deployed with the Regiment on Op TOSCA, WO1 Waddell assumes the appointment with a wealth of experience, professionalism and commitment to the Regiment and its soldiers. We wish him every success as he takes on the role of RSM during an important period for the Regiment.

At the same time, we send our sincere gratitude to Capt Ferries for his outstanding service as RSM since Apr 2024. After a soldiering career of 23 years he has recently commissioned as a Late Entry Officer, Capt Ferries now moves into a new role within the Regiment, continuing his service and leadership in a different capacity.

Huge congratulations to the Kinloss Eagles, crowned Men’s Bowl champions after a hard-fought 26–16 victory over Hawick Linden at Hive Stadium.

Kinloss Eagles were crowned Men’s Bowl champions after a gritty 26-16 win over Hawick Linden who feature in their first-ever Bowl Final at Hive Stadium.

The game was delayed in the opening minutes due to an injury to John Freur of Hawick Linden, with Justin Tait replacing him.

Kinloss took the first points on offer when standoff fullback Euan Duguid kicked an early penalty (3-0, 7 mins).

Paula rokocua received a yellow card for Kinloss after a high tackle and after a series of penalty infringements, Riley Muir drew Hawick Linden level with his penalty (3-3, 19 mins).

Linden dominated the possession for the majority of the first half but had little to show for the efforts before they found space out wide and replacement Justin Tait made no mistake finishing in the corner as half time loomed (3-8, 38 mins).

Half-time: Kinloss Eagles 3-8 Hawick Linden

Kinloss came out firing in the second half and after nearly finding the right corner, it was through waisea qase who forced his way over the tryline for their first try, with Duguid adding the extra two to reclaim the lead (10-8, 46 mins).

Duguid’s reliable boot extended the men in red’s lead even further when he slotted a penalty in front of the posts. Linden responded with their own penalty kick to keep the game to a narrow two-point margin (13-11, 53 mins).

With silverware on the line, Kinloss opted for the three points off a penalty to edge just further ahead and Duguid made no mistake (16-11, 62 mins).

The crowd came alive when peni bula ran in a try from within his own half, beating three defenders to score right under the posts (23-11, 64 mins).

Linden responded immediately through Captain Aiden Fairbairn who forced his way over the line to bring the game within a converted try (23-16, 65mins)

Linden’s Greg Cottrell was shown a red card. Duiguid slotted his third penalty of the encounter to secure the Bowl title for Kinloss as the final whistle sounded.

Over the last few weeks during Exercise AGILE WARRIOR 26, 39 Engineer Regiment’s Lead Air Support Squadron, 48 Field Squadron, deployed to various locations across the United Kingdom. They provided specialist Military Engineering support to the and assisted in airfield recuperation planning.

One key deliverable from 48 Field Squadron was the delivery of Basic Airfield Damage Repair (ADR) training to personnel. Our Sapper JNCO’s provided them with the essential "self-help" skills required to recover and maintain Air operations before the arrival of specialist military engineers from 39 Engineer Regiment.

Through the up-skilling of personnel at RAF Lossiemouth and RAF Coningsby with knowledge of Airfield Damage Repair, we are helping ensure that the RAF's Agile Combat Employment (ACE) concept remains resilient and responsive.
