At approximately 17:00 hours on Friday evening the team were called to a casualty at the top of High Cup Nick on the Pennines. The casualty was unable to walk due to a fall, and had sustained a laceration to their face and an injury to their ankle.

The team deployed, but due to low numbers able to respond called on Penrith MRT to assist.

The casualty was assessed, treated, packaged and extracted by stretcher.

The casualty's group were well equipped as they were walking the Pennine Way, fortunately the ankle injury turned out to be a sprain, but it has, unfortunately, called a halt to their long distance walk.

We wish the casualty a speedy recovery and hope they are able to complete the route in the future.

We would also like to thank Penrith Mountain Rescue Team for their support.

Today, and tomorrow, team members will be at Westmorland Services (Northbound and Siuthbound) collecting funds for the team, ably supported our lovely Friends of KSMRT.

Maybe pop along and say hello if you're visiting.

I'm not sure who organised the weather for the weekend but they pulled an absolue blinder! ☀️

Remember your suncream folks.

Earlier today today the team was called to attend a walker who was feeling unwell at County Bridge on part of the Coast to Coast route.

Team members assessed, treated and extracted the casualty to the road, where they met and handed the casualty over to an NWAS crew (ambulance service). We wish the walker a speedy recovery.

This call out was our first for June, but did follow a rather busy couple of weeks in May.

Call outs in May:

1.5.26
-Suspected heatstroke
-Lost walkers

11.5.26
-Searching for missing person (Penrith MRT assist)

14.5.26
-Spinal injury

15.5.26
-Leg injury

17.5.26
-Searching for missing person (Patterdale MRT assist

With our average annual call outs usually totalling from the low to mid 30's, to have so many in one month is quite unusual.

As normal the team continues to train, maintain skills and kit, and we even managed to hold a collection at Tebay. We would like to thank those team members and friends of the team who gave up their time during that weekend to raise funds, and of course everyone who donated. The total raised was a very respectable £4125.00.

We recently held our team AGM.

Peter Miller has served as our chairman for a good number of years, having also held the position of treasurer prior to that. Peter has decided the time is right to retire from the team and we would like to express our thanks for his time, commitment and guidance to KSMRT. We wish you well Peter and hope you enjoy all the spare time you'll suddenly find yourself with!

Peter was presented with this lovely picture of Nine Standards by the team to remind him of his time with us.

Incoming Chairman Jason Winder has his work cut out! But we're very glad he's stepped into the role.

Are you looking for something to do over Easter weekend?

Kirkby Stephen MRT will be opening the doors to base, so come along and have a natter to our team members and find out what we do. It's definitely not all about dashing about on the fells looking for lost or injured folk.

Our Land Rovers will be out and about round town, so give us a wave if you spot us!

The climbing wall will be open both Saturday and Sunday, so the kids can come and have a go.

There will be refreshments and food being served in the crew room. (Can't beat a nice brew while you chat to folks!)

How to find us:

Our base is opposite Kirkby Stephen Grammar School (one of the Easter Rally car parks) and buses will be regularly running up and down from town.

We look forward to seeing everyone over the weekend and welcoming you to our base. 😀
