🔥 Chimney Fire Safety Week Reminder 🔥

Before winter sets in, make sure your chimney is cleaned by a qualified HETAS chimney sweep.

If you burn coal, logs, or coke, tar and creosote can build up inside your chimney. This is what catches fire, and once it does, it can be extremely difficult to put out, causing serious damage to your home.

✅ A professional sweep keeps your chimney safe
✅ Reduces the risk of chimney fires
✅ Helps your stove or fire burn more efficiently

Stay safe this winter, book your chimney sweep today! 🏠

It may seem a while away until you need that open fire / log burner, but.

When was the last time you had your chimney cleaned ?

Dust and debris can build up or blockages can occur if your chimney / open fire has not been used regularly, including over the summer months.
If you burn the incorrect fuel for the type of burner you have or burn contaminated or wet wood, creosote can build up in your chimney and catch fire.

Reduce the chance of a chimney fire.
Get your chimney swept.
Use a registered chimney sweep.

As the summer holidays come to an end, our roads will again be busier with children walking, cycling, and being driven to school.
Let’s all do our part to keep them safe:

🛑 Driving near schools?
✅ Slow down
✅ Stay alert
✅ Watch for children crossing
✅ Park responsibly

👶 Child in a car seat?
Make sure it’s the right size for their age and weight, and that it’s fitted correctly. A poorly fitted seat can put your child at serious risk in a crash.

Did you know that 360 years ago today a fire broke out in a bakery, starting what would become known as the Great Fire of London. Attached are two of the most striking images created to commemorate the fire.
🖼👨‍🎨🔥

The first image is an etching of the Great Fire of London, created not long after the fire took place. The etching shows the view from the southern side of the river, detailing the destruction caused by the fire along the Thames. It was originally produced for Volume 10 of the ‘Theatrum Europaeum’, a history on German speaking lands, published in 1667.

The second image is an oil painting from around 1700, perhaps even earlier. Looking down the river from the west of London, it shows the evacuation of people across the river in boats, and the spire of the old St Paul’s Cathedral engulfed in flames on the left.

After the fire, the city was rebuilt, resulting in many new buildings. The most noticeable new addition was the dome of the new St Paul’s Cathedral, which still dominates part of London’s skyline to this day.

🍂SEPTEMBER HAS ARRIVED! 🍂

Well, that’s it… summer has officially packed its bags! ☀️👋

The 1st September means autumn is here, darker evenings, cooler mornings, leaves everywhere and the annual debate about whether it’s actually cold enough to put the heating on yet!

But as we head into the darker months, it’s also a good time for a little fire safety check:

🔥 Test those smoke alarms
🕯️ Don’t leave candles unattended.
🍳 Keep an eye on what’s cooking, especially after a long day.
🔌 Don’t overload sockets.
🔥 If you’re using heaters or fires, give them plenty of space and never leave them unattended.

And remember… fire safety doesn’t take a season off! 😉

From all of us at the station, have a fantastic September and enjoy everything autumn has to offer.

Stay safe, stay warm and keep those smoke alarms working! 🚒❤️

🍂 Happy 1st September! 🍂

🚨 COULD YOU GET OUT OF YOUR HOUSE IN THE DARK? 🏠🔥

Imagine waking up at 2am and there’s smoke in the hallway.

Could everyone in your home get out safely?

Have you got:
✅ Working smoke alarms
✅ A clear escape route
✅ Keys where everyone can find them
✅ A meeting point outside
✅ A plan for getting children/pets out?

👇 Be honest, does your household have a fire escape plan? YES or NO?

And if you don’t, maybe today is the day to make one.

🔥 WHAT’S THE MOST DANGEROUS FIRE-SAFETY HABIT PEOPLE HAVE AT HOME?

Leaving the cooker unattended?

Overloading sockets?

Candles left burning?

Charging phones overnight?

Smoking indoors?

We all have habits that we know aren’t exactly sensible… 😬

👇 What do you think is the BIGGEST fire risk people ignore at home?

Let’s see what Ashfield thinks, and hopefully give everyone a few reminders along the way. 🚒

Share this with your family, especially anyone who says “it’ll be fine!”
