🌹 Looking after Halewood’s heritage

It’s great to see the area around the Blackie the Warhorse memorial cleaned up and looking much better.

After Cllr Edna Finneran and Halewood Labour campaigners visited the memorial in August and raised concerns about its condition, contact was made with Knowsley Council, the Royal British Legion and the site owners.

Blackie’s story is an important part of Halewood’s history, and this memorial deserves to be treated with the care and respect it represents.

We’ll continue to keep an eye on the site and raise any concerns to help ensure it is properly maintained for the future.

Giving people hope for the future!

It was a real privilege to be in the hall yesterday and hear the Prime Minister set out his ambitions for the country.

What struck me most was just how much of the speech was about the things that matter to people back home in Knowsley, good jobs, decent homes, opportunities for our young people, support for families, better public services and making everyday life that little bit easier.

There was a real sense of looking forward and being positive about what we can achieve together.

We have huge potential in Knowsley. We’ve got brilliant young people, strong communities, businesses investing in our borough and people who care deeply about the places where they live.

I want to see us build on all of that.

The Prime Minister spoke about creating opportunities for young people, investing in housing, improving social care and making sure essential services work for people. These are all things that can make a genuine difference to communities like ours.

And alongside that bigger ambition, families will also see practical changes, including VAT being removed from domestic electricity bills from Thursday.

For me, though, yesterday was about something bigger.

It was about giving people confidence that we can look forward again.

After some difficult years, people deserve to feel positive about the future. They deserve to believe that their children will have opportunities, that good jobs will be created, that our communities will continue to improve and that places like Knowsley will share in the country's success.

There is already so much happening across our borough, and I’m incredibly positive about where Knowsley is heading.

We won't change everything overnight, but yesterday I heard a Prime Minister with ambition for the country and a belief that we can do better.

I came out of the hall thinking about what that could mean for Knowsley.

More opportunity. More investment. Stronger public services. And, most importantly, hope and confidence in the future.

That's something worth looking forward to.

INCREDIBLE NEWS FOR KNOWSLEY! ⚽👏

A huge announcement today as Steven Gerrard unveils plans for a multi-million-pound investment in Huyton, working in partnership with Knowsley Council.

The proposals for King George V playing fields include new 3G pitches, a Padel centre of excellence and new community facilities – creating more opportunities for our young people, schools, sports clubs and community organisations.

This is a significant vote of confidence in Knowsley and our communities.

As Leader of Knowsley Council, Cllr Graham Morgan, said:

“We really welcome this investment into sporting facilities in Knowsley but in particular I am really encouraged by the shared desire to ensure community participation is at the heart of these proposals.”

This is exactly what investment in our borough should be about – creating opportunities, improving facilities and ensuring our communities benefit.

As Labour representatives, we want Knowsley to be a place where our young people can access high-quality facilities and opportunities right on their doorstep.

There is still work to do as the proposals progress through the necessary planning and legal processes, but this is incredibly exciting news for Huyton and the wider Knowsley community.

🚌🌹 LABOUR IS PUTTING THE PUBLIC BACK INTO PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Today marks a major milestone for our Liverpool City Region as buses begin returning to public control.

For too long, decisions about our bus network have been driven by commercial priorities. Under franchising, we can put passengers and our communities first, with decisions about routes, timetables and standards back in local hands.

This is about delivering:
🚌 Better and more reliable services
📍 Better connections between our communities
🌙 Longer and later-running services
💷 Simpler fares
✨ New and upgraded buses
🚆 A more joined-up network connecting buses with trains, ferries, walking and cycling

The ambition is clear: a transport network designed around the people who actually use it.

The change will happen in phases across the Liverpool City Region, but today represents the beginning of a new era for our buses.

Here in Knowsley, Labour will continue working with our Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram and our partners across the City Region to deliver the affordable, reliable and connected public transport our residents deserve.

We welcome and fully support the statement from Cllr Graham Morgan, Leader of Knowsley Council, reaffirming Knowsley’s commitment to Pride, equality and inclusion.

Pride is an opportunity to celebrate our LGBTQ+ communities, recognise the progress that has been made, and acknowledge that there is still work to do to ensure everyone can live free from discrimination and prejudice.

Knowsley is a borough built on respect, fairness and community. We are proud to stand with those values and proud to stand with our LGBTQ+ residents.

As Cllr Morgan has made clear, there is no place in Knowsley for homophobia, transphobia, racism or any form of hate. We will always challenge discrimination wherever it exists and support efforts to build stronger, more inclusive communities.

Knowsley Labour is proud to support Pride and the message that everyone deserves to feel safe, valued and respected for who they are.

“Knowsley is proud to support Pride.” That’s the clear message from Knowsley Council’s Leader Cllr Graham Morgan.

He said: “As Leader of Knowsley Council, my first and most important responsibility is to serve the people who live in the borough – and I take that responsibility extremely seriously, especially when it comes to disadvantaged or marginalised groups. As a leader, it would be a massive dereliction of duty to only serve those who voted for you, or whose world views you share. That’s not what local leadership looks like.

“I believe Knowsley is a welcoming, inclusive borough where everyone can feel accepted. Ask people living here and they’ll tell you that people in Knowsley are kind, friendly and will do anything for anyone. And that’s exactly the kind of place you want to live.

“Regrettably, we as a borough have seen the very worst of what can happen when hateful ideologies go unchecked. The senseless murders of Anthony Walker and Michael Causer are tragedies which have never and will never be forgotten in our borough. Both feel as raw and as shocking today as they did all those years ago. Both these crimes were motivated by ignorance and hate. But I know the response of the vast majority of people in Knowsley is a determination that those two young lives will not be forgotten – and that we should all strive to make Knowsley a place where nothing so terrible can happen again and everyone is accepted for who they are.

“That’s part of the reason why events like Pride are so important. I’m proud that for the past two years, Knowsley has hosted its very own Pride celebration each summer. I can honestly say, these events have been wonderful. They have brought together people from all sections of the community – young and old. It’s about showing everyone in our borough that they are welcome, accepted and safe regardless of race, gender or sexuality.

“As a council we will continue to stand alongside LGBTQ+ people in our borough, always call out hate when we see it, and celebrate the incredible contribution of all people in our communities.

“We’re proud to support Pride.”

Well done to Knowsley Library Service for proudly supporting Pride Month and helping ensure LGBTQ+ stories, voices and experiences are visible on our bookshelves.

Pride is both a celebration and a protest.

It’s a chance to celebrate how far we’ve come as a society, but also to recognise that there is still more work to do to ensure everyone can live openly, safely and without discrimination.

Visibility matters. Representation matters. When people see themselves reflected in the stories they read, it helps build understanding, acceptance and a stronger sense of belonging.

And that’s what we’re about in Knowsley. We are at our best when everyone feels welcome, valued and able to be themselves. We celebrate our differences, stand up against discrimination and work together to build communities where everyone belongs.

We’re proud to see Knowsley Libraries playing their part in creating welcoming and inclusive spaces for everyone this Pride Month. 🌈

Cllr Graham Morgan has been re-elected as Leader of Knowsley Council following its Annual Meeting this afternoon.
Meanwhile, a new Mayor was sworn in – Cllr Edna Finneran will serve as Mayor of Knowsley for the municipal year 2026/2027, with Cllr Joanne Burke as Deputy Mayor.
