Lend a Hand is a family based Short Break Care Service for families who have a child with a learning disability. Short Break Care can last a couple of hours to an overnight stay in duration and can take place either in the community or in a Short Break Carer's home. All of our Short Break Carers are volunteers who undergo a robust induction process. Short Breaks provide children/young people the c
hance to make new friends and to undertake various activities as well as providing parents the opportunity to spend time with other children they might have as well as having a much needed break. By volunteering with the Lend a Hand Service Short Break Carers have the opportunity to gain new skills and valuable experience and access appropriate training opportunities that can enhance their employability skills. Short Break Carers have stressed the importance of building positive relationships with families as well as giving back to their community and the fun they have when with the child/young person they support.
