🎓🛡️ Heading to University? Stay Scam Smart!

Know someone starting university this autumn? Before they pack their bags, make sure they know how to spot the signs of a scam.

Students are often targeted by fraudsters through fake accommodation offers, job scams, phishing messages and online marketplace fraud.
❋ Be cautious of deals that seem too good to be true
❋ Use strong passwords and enable multi-factor authentication
❋ Never let anyone use your bank account to move money
❋ If you think you've been scammed, contact your bank immediately and report it to Report Fraud.

A five-minute conversation about scams could help protect a student from losing money and personal information. Stay informed and stay scam smart!

🪵🔥 Think Before You Burn

Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service is reminding residents to avoid garden bonfires wherever possible.

Burning household waste or unwanted furniture can quickly become dangerous, with fires spreading to fences, sheds and nearby properties. Smoke can also cause problems for neighbours.
Instead, consider composting, recycling or using your local council's waste collection services.

🌞 And while the warm weather continues, remember that disposable barbecues should never be used in parks, fields or on moorland. Pack a picnic instead and help protect our green spaces.

If a fire becomes out of control and threatens property, call 999 immediately.

🌺 Help Mark 100 Years of Kirkham's Memorial Gardens

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the opening of Kirkham Memorial Gardens, and we'd love the community to come together to commemorate this special milestone.

To help celebrate the centenary, we're inviting residents, schools, community groups and local organisations to take part in the commemorative procession.

As part of the celebrations, we've also shared some incredible historic film footage from the opening of the Memorial Gardens in November 1926. You may even spot a relative or familiar face from generations past!

The procession starts from Town End at 1.45pm, up Poulton St., down Church Street and into the park. Returning approx. 3pm to the Community Centre

On Saturday 24th October Kirkham Cultural Connections are planning a return of the “Celebrating Kirkham and Wesham’s Textile Heritage” Exhibition at Kirkham Community Centre - more details about that in the coming days.

As part of the exhibition KCC would like to celebrate the towns’ current textile skills as well as its history, hence the “Craft a Textile Square” Project.

They would like to invite members of the community (old and young) to craft a 20cm (8 inch) textile square during July and August. Any textile, any textile method. So whether you knit, sew, crochet, weave, paint, felt or print, or any other textile method, would you join in?

Drop off boxes are sited at Kirkham Community Centre, Maymans, Kirkham Library and Wesham Co-op. Please complete a form to have your piece identified as made by you.

Please note that the squares would become part of a permanent textile display which would first be shown at the event in October and so would be a donation and could not be returned.
