Time is ticking away for any East Dunbartonshire groups aiming to apply for a Local Community Grant.

The latest funding window closes at midnight on Monday evening (21 September). Organisations can apply for up to £4,000 from the Council fund.

If you're part of a local group with a great idea or involved in a local project which could benefit from a boost then there's no time to lose.

Trusted Trader Week 2026 is currently underway, with residents being urged to close the door on cold callers.

Key advice:

* Never agree to work on the doorstep, however reasonable the person seems
* Not everyone is who they seem – only use reputable companies you have chosen and try to get three quotes (in writing). Use official schemes such as East Dunbartonshire Trusted Trader.
* Be wary of traders who claim they can start immediately, but demand large sums of cash or a bank transfer up front. Never agree to pay in advance for work yet to be carried out.
* Get a full business name and address you can check, not just a first name and a mobile number

The Council’s new Local Community Grant Fund aims to make a positive difference across the area.

Organisations can apply for total funding up to a maximum of £4,000. The closing date for the first round of funding is 21 September 2026.

The Living Wage Scotland Awards honour the best of the Living Wage network in Scotland. Finalists will be accredited Living Wage employers and supporters who have gone above and beyond in their commitment to the real Living Wage.

There are 7 award categories, allowing employers and individuals to demonstrate their dedication to people and communities.

Residents are being urged to remain vigilant against doorstep crime and fraud.

With the recent summer weather, perhaps you’ve had an unexpected caller offering to carry out work in your garden or suggesting a repair.

Please take care:

* Not everyone is who they seem – only use reputable companies and try to get three quotes
* When in doubt, ask friends/family or use official schemes such as East Dunbartonshire Trusted Trader
* Say no to doorstep traders and cold callers, for example, offering to carry out roofing/guttering work – you could end up out of pocket
* Hang up on telephone scams – if it's too good to be true then it likely is.

East Dunbartonshire Council are offering local businesses an opportunity to access funding to help with the costs of creating new engineering related apprenticeships. Four grants of up £7500 will be available to help with the costs of training and wages. The funding will be paid over the initial 6 months of the apprenticeship. Please note eligibility and an application assessment process will apply to applications. This programme is funded by the Scottish Government.
