Roadworks Update for Week Commencing Monday 30 March 2026

A965, Finstown – Works are underway on the A965 between Atlantis Lodges and the Old Finstown Road junction and are expected to be completed by the end of April 2026. Works will take place in sections with temporary traffic lights and speed restrictions in place. This will influence all traffic including public bus services. The first of two road closures of the A965 are expected to start Tuesday 31st March, where all traffic will be diverted via Zions Loan and Old Finstown Road for approximately one week at a time

A965 Firth, Stenness & Stromness – Openreach are planning to carry out cable laying works on the A965, Stenness. Expected to start second week in April. The works will be carried out under temporary traffic lights and will cause minor delays to all traffic using the route including public bus services

A966 between Skiddy Road & Tingwall Junction – Work is underway on haunch reconstruction site with the work expected to take around two months to complete. The work will be carried out under temporary traffic signals, therefore there will be delays to all traffic in the area including the No 6 Tingwall Ferry bus service whilst the works are being carried out.

A960, between Groatsetter Road & Churchyard Road, Tankerness - We are currently planning to carry out haunch reconstruction works commencing Wednedsay 1st April 2026, with the work expected to take around two weeks to complete. The work will be carried out under temporary traffic signals, therefore there will be delays to all traffic in the area including bus services whilst the works are being carried out.

New Scapa Road- Kirkwall- Alfred Fletts will be carrying out Drainage works starting Monday 30th March 2026 for potentially 2 weeks at the pedestrian crossing on New Scapa Road at the Balfour Hospital. Works will be carried out under a give and take set up and has the potential for some delays to all traffic using New Scapa Road/Junction Road as the works on site progress. Pedestrian crossing will be closed for the duration of the works.

Germiston Road, Orphir – Resurfacing work has started on the Germiston Road between the A964 junction and Newhouse. Works will be carried out under road closure conditions; access will be maintained for school transport and residents where possible.

Junction Road, Kirkwall - R Clouston Ltd works on Junction Road are ongoing, with some traffic management in place to enable building works to be carried out in safety. There is still the potential for some delays to all traffic using Junction Road as the works on site progress.

South Ronaldsay (various locations) - Openreach works are ongoing to install ducting and fibreoptic cable in various locations around South Ronaldsay. Works will be carried out under two-way lights and road closures. Access to affected properties will be maintained at all times throughout the works, however access will be subject to delays.





Looking Ahead:



Old Scapa Road (B0053), St Ola- OIC will be carrying works to excavate the sandbanks to widen the carriegway starting Monday 7th April 2026 and is expected to take around 1 week to complete. Works will be carried out under road closure conditions. Provisions will be made for service bus at all times.



B9042 near the Oback Rd Junction, South Ronaldsay - OIC will be carrying out a small surface patch during April 2026 and will take approx. two days to complete. Works will be carried out under road closure conditions; essential access will be maintained where possible.



Church Road, St Margarets Hope. - We are currently planning to carry out resurfacing works expected to start the 3rd week in April 2026, with the work expected to take around two weeks to complete. The work will be carried out under full road closure conditions and will affect the X1 service bus. Therefore, during road closure periods the bus will travel in and out of St Margaret’s Hope via St Margaret’s Road.



Brownstown Road, Stromness – SSEN are planning to start works week beginning Monday 20th April 2026 to lay underground ducting on the Brownstown Road, Stromness. Works will be carried out road closure conditions. Access to properties will be always maintained.

Roadworks Update for Week Commencing Monday 16th March 2026

Yinstay Road- St Andrews- OIC will be carrying out surfacing works on the Yinstay Road between the cottage of Holland to near redbanks. Week commencing Monday 16th March 2026 and are expected to take around 1 week to complete. Works will be carried out under road closure conditions, essential access and school transport will be maintained.

A964, Orphir - We are carrying out reconstruction works on the A964 between Germiston Road and Smoogro Road. Works will be carried out under two-way traffic lights and are expected to be completed by mid March 2026. This will have delays on the No2 Houton Bus.

A965, Finstown – Works are underway on the A965 between Atlantis Lodges and the Old Finstown Road junction and are expected to be completed by the end of April 2026. Works will take place in sections with temporary traffic lights and speed restrictions in place. This will influence all traffic including public bus services.

Tuesday 24 February:
The R64 will be approximately 20 minutes late this morning, the bus has developed an issue at Zion loan. A replacement bus has been sent out.
The school has been informed.

Monday 8th December

Stagecoach has advised that the school bus (Route 32) from South Ronaldsay to KGS is running approximately 20 minutes late due to a technical issue

21/11/2025

Friday 21 November:

We've received reports of an accident on the Old Finstown Road near the Bloomfield Road affecting the Glaitness Primary bus run. The bus will not be able to service this part of the route and will take a diversion on Sunnybank Road instead.

Stagecoach has further advised that Gyre Road on route 71 for Orphir Primary is also not passable and the bus will not be able to serve this part of the route.

Thursday 20 November:

Stagecoach has advised that Scorradale Road on route 31 from Orphir to KGS is currently not passable, and the bus will not be serving this part of the route this morning.

19/11/2025

Wednesday 19 November

Stagecoach has advised that the Orphir to KGS bus is currently stuck at Scorradale due to icy conditions and is running approximately 20 minutes late. Engineers are on the way and it is hoped the situation will be resolved shortly.

**UPDATE**
Stagecoach say the bus at Scorradale is now moving and is approximately 30 minutes late. This bus goes on to the Tankerness to St Andrews Primary route, and Stagecoach is looking at making alternative arrangements to avoid subsequent delays on this route.
