Well its been quite a week !! The first ever Dementia Arts Festival held here at Kirrie Connections has been an absolute triumph. Thank you to everyone at Lochside Connections Montrose Connections, Meeting Centre Arbroath Connections for their wonderful sculptures and art work for display and thank you for everyone who took the time to come along to join us in celebrating the amazing creativity of all of our members. A special thank you to Bob and Mike from Kirriemuir Photography Club who helped us to capture some of the special moments My final thank you is to this incredible team of staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly across the week to ensure everyone had the best experience, you are quite a remarkable bunch, thank you for your dedication, hard work and support . Until next year 🎨🤩

So what better to do today in this dreich weather than come along to Kirrie Connections to have a look round at some of the amazing art work produced by members of Meeting Centres across Angus. Admission to the first ever Angus Arts Festival is free and we will be open from 11.00 am - 2.00pm to give everyone the opportunity to admire the creativity and artistic talents of everyone involved, prepare to be wowed 🤩

What a fantastic week we have had with the jewel in the crown being the inaugural Commonwealth Games event held at Lochside Connections with Montrose Connections, Meeting Centre A day full of fun, laughter, spirit and connections and even the sun kept its hat on all day 😎

We have also been busy working on the first ever Dementia Arts Festival 🎨 to be held at Kirrie Connections next week where a wonderful array of sculptures and artwork designed and produced by our wonderful members and members of Lochside Connections, Montrose Connections, Meeting Centre and Arbroath Connections will be on display. This event will be open to the public on Friday 28th August from 11 - 2 so please pop in and be prepared to be wowed 🤩

Its been all go here the last couple of weeks, nothing new then I hear you say😄Eddie fired up the BBQ, well its a shame not to when the weather is so nice 😎
Had a lovely visit from Outside the Box working on our Climate Wisdom project and we made wreaths, rafts and even shopping bags out of old t shirts, waste not want not 😉
Kay from Fern Foot Care - Mobile Practitioner came to spruce up some tootsies 👣 and we welcomed Lloyd Melville MSP for his first surgery here at KC where we had the opportunity to have a chat about all things Kirrie Connections our favourite subject !!
Behind the scenes we are working on our inaugural Angus Meeting Centres Commonwealth Games Event and our upcoming Angus MC Arts Festival so watch out for updates coming soon. Have a great weekend everyone 😍

As a volunteer driver, you'll help pick up and drop off our members, making a real difference by reducing isolation and helping people stay connected.

An opportunity to be part of an amazing Team at Montrose Connections, Meeting Centre

🌟 We're looking for someone special to join our Montrose Connections team. 🌟

Due to one of our wonderful team members undergoing surgery, we are looking to recruit a Support Worker on a fixed-term contract from 1st September until 23rd December 2026.

📍 Montrose Connections Dementia Meeting Centre
📆 Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays
🕒 9.30am – 3.30pm

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of people living with dementia and their families.

We're looking for someone who:
💙 Has experience supporting older adults and/or people living with dementia.
💙 Is kind, patient and compassionate.
💙 Can confidently build relationships and provide person-centred support.
💙 Is able to work independently and become part of our close-knit team from day one.

The role includes:
• Supporting our members throughout the day.
• Planning and leading meaningful, person-centred activities.
• Preparing and serving refreshments and assisting with light kitchen duties.
• Escorting members to and from the meeting centre on our minibus alongside our volunteer driver.
• Helping maintain a welcoming, safe and homely environment through everyday housekeeping tasks.
• Working closely with colleagues, volunteers and families to ensure every member has the best possible experience.

At Montrose Connections, we believe everyone deserves to live well with dementia. We're looking for someone who shares that passion and wants to help create days filled with friendship, purpose, laughter and support.

It was good to spend some time relaxing in the garden last week, although watering, dead heading the petunias & sweeping up leaves all got done too. We celebrated Ray's birthday with cake 🎂 - be rude not to 😁 & we ended the week with much dancing & clapping to the tunes played by Gordon Reid 🎶

🚗 Volunteer Drivers Needed 🚗
Could you help make a real difference to local families?
Getting people to and from Kirrie Connections can be difficult for some of our members and their families, and we're looking for volunteer drivers who may be able to help.
Our members arrive at around 10:00am and leave at approximately 3:00pm, so if you have some availability during these times, we'd love to hear from you.
To volunteer, you will need:
✅ A full driving licence
✅ Access to a suitable vehicle
✅ Willingness to complete a PVG check
Even a small amount of your time could make a huge difference in helping someone access the support, friendship and activities that Kirrie Connections provides. Mileage costs will be reimbursed

Another sunny week & more outdoor fun for us. From decorating biscuits to a virtual trip in a gondola. Making things in the workshop & keeping the flowers watered is all a very good way of keeping us all active & doing the everyday things we enjoy. We celebrated Volunteer Pam's birthday with cake 🎂 & took the opportunity to relax in the garden. We had fun with a hover ball when Gary & Lorraine from Strathmore Community Rugby Trust came for our Sporting Memories session. For any trips we go on, we get to use the minibus belonging to the 2nd Kirriemuir Scout Group so we decided to show our appreciation by giving it a wash - much fun was had & nobody got soaked! More music from John, dancing & singing ended off the week nicely, always good to see the happy faces 😊
