Our State Rooms will be closed to the visiting public on Thursday 6th and Friday 7th August due to a private hire.
The Tea Room will also be closed on the Thursday the 6th only.
The weekend remains open as usual.

We are really looking forward to being a part of this again! Join us in the market place to hear about JMW Turner's 1808 stay in Knutsford at Tabley House and the wonderful paintings commissions he did for the Leicester's of Tabley.
We will also have children's colouring sheets of Turner and 'create your own picture gallery of Knutsford views'.

Our next Tabley Talk!

Sue Wilkes (Fellow of the Royal Historical Society) presents an
illustrated talk exploring life in Cheshire during the era of Jane
Austen and Walter Scott. She explores the pastimes and charitable
work of the local gentry, the dramatic abductionof Ellen Turner, and
the rise of the cotton and silk industries against the Napoleonic
Wars and the Corn Laws, the founding of the Cheshire Yeomanry.

Tabley, Cheshire, the Seat of Sir J. F. Leicester, Bt: Windy Day by Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775–1851) is available to purchase as a framed or unframed art print in a variety of sizes. Purchases support collections and the Art UK charity.

Its all in the detail!

A beautiful carved panel form an English 17th Century oak dower chest, featuring stylised Rose, Cornflower and Fritillary design.

The chest is soon to return to us from being on loan for over 2 decades and would have originally furnished Tabley Old Hall. It has a planked
top with moulded edge; fruiting vine carved frieze; three identically carved floral front panels with broad chip carved stiles; two drawers below. We will be happy to see it return.

Spend the day creating an original artwork inspired by the town’s architecture, landscapes and hidden gems, before showcasing your finished piece in a public exhibition. The event is open to both amateur and professional artists.

Anthony Burton of the Gaskell Society offers an insight into the famed novelist's influential friendships.

Elizabeth Gaskell spent her childhood in Knutsford and even visited Tabley Old Hall. Growing up in the area very much inspired her early writings. Anthony Burton from the Gaskell Society will give a talk at the Tabley House Collection, within the state rooms in our gallery, which looks beyond just Knutsford and includes Sandlebridge and other areas of Cheshire that she encountered and where they also show up in her writings. The talk will highlight the breadth of her local ties including friendships with the Samuel Greg family of Bollington and Caroline Davenport of Capesthorne.
