BBC News reports:
“Cheshire East Council has become the fourth local authority to formally oppose the proposed Peak Cluster carbon dioxide pipeline. Councillors unanimously backed a motion calling on the government not to approve the scheme until concerns over safety, environmental impacts and effects on local communities are addressed.”

The motion was brought by Gawsworth ward councillor Lesley Smetham with support for an amended version from across the political spectrum.

Our MP has published a statement that he does not support the Peak Cluster Ltd pipeline proposals. This is important for Gawsworth farmers and residents as the latest proposed route, while avoiding the village settlement, tracks across the west and south of Gawsworth Parish and through local farms and businesses.
Gawsworth Parish Council stated its opposition in the initial consultation. Cheshire East Councillors will debate their position on 14th October.

Preparations are officially underway for the 2026 Gawsworth Scarecrow Trail (Saturday 24th October – Sunday 1st November).
Would you like to make and display a scarecrow this year?
If you live in the village, you can display it outside your house. If you live outside the village but still want to take part, we can easily find a spot for your creation!
You can make one as a family, or team up with classmates, sports teams, Brownies, or Cubs.
(No set theme this year — just have fun with it, and nothing too scary please!)

Gawsworth farmer wins national award.
Graham Parks, who farms at Overbank Farm in Gawsworth, is the Farmers Weekly Beef Farmer of the Year. Graham, a former Gawsworth Parish Councillor, won praise for how he has woven environmental management into the business. More than 1,500m of waterways have been fenced to create valuable wildlife corridors, while hedges are cut on a two-year rotation. Wildlife surveys have recorded 23 bird species, reflecting the biodiversity benefits of Graham’s management.

In 2023 Graham was named Grassland Farmer of the Year by the British Grassland Society in recognition of all the work he has put into his regenerative grazing.

Overbank is one of several council tenanted farms in Gawsworth. The Parish Council recently submitted evidence to a Cheshire East review of their farm policies emphasising the importance of these farms to Gawsworth Life and to the environment.

Peak Cluster Ltd have today published an updated route for their proposed pipeline. There are significant changes for Gawsworth. They comment “We’ve moved the proposed pipeline route near Gawsworth and Moss Houses. After passing North Rode, the route now diverts northwest, avoiding land allocated for future development. Many residents will be aware that Richborough Estates / Asteer Planning has launched a pre-application consultation on a proposed development off Penningtons Lane. The consultation page is here: https://www.asteerplanning.com/penningtonslane

🧱 The site forms part of a parcel of land ‘safeguarded’ in the 2017 Local Plan (LPS19). This means it was removed from the green belt and identified for future development beyond the original local plan period.

🏠 Cheshire East Council no longer has a five-year housing land supply, this makes resisting development above the local plan more difficult.

📢 This stage is a pre-application consultation – it is a stage where the developer can adjust the proposal before submitting a planning application. Comments therefore need to be sent to the developer, not Cheshire East Council.

📝 The next stage would be an outline application which would seek approval for the principle of development. As part of this application, the developer would provide more detail on the proposals. This will include a statement of community consultation outlining what was raised in the pre-application consultation and how they have responded to it.
