A south Skye resident has begun an 88-mile cycle fundraising challenge from the Skye Bridge to South Uist in memory of his late uncle who died in March.
Kyleakin resident Danny Steele is raising money for the Western Isles Cancer Care Initiative charity which provided support to his uncle Donnie and his family while he was living with cancer.
In memory of his uncle Donnie and to raise money for the Western Isles Cancer Care Initiative, Danny is currently taking on a cycle challenge from Skye to South Uist - where his uncle lived.
Danny departed from the Skye Bridge at 5.45am this morning and has set himself the target of cycling 86 miles and running the final two miles to the Borrodale Hotel in South Uist, which is just passed his uncle Donnie's family home.
Speaking to Radio Skye ahead of the challenge, Danny said: "I didn't realise how much a challenge some of the things were for my uncle being in rural Uist, until I spoke to him.
"He was put from pillar to post sometimes.
"There were things for his chemotherapy that weren't getting over to the island in time.
"There were various hurdles that he had to get through. Things unfortunately went downhill pretty quickly with Donnie, but the charity was great at helping him out and putting things in place.
"The last thing you want to be doing is worrying about all these logistics when you have this personal battle."
So far Danny has raised more than ยฃ5,000 for the Western Isles Cancer Care Initiative
