🌿 Getting ready to track Dormouse at our BioBlitz! 🐭✨
On Wednesday Di (our local dormouse expert) has been out setting 20 dormouse tracking tunnels in preparation for the BioBlitz on 27 June. These simple but effective tunnels will be left in place so we can check them during the event and (fingers crossed!) discover signs of one of our most elusive woodland residents.
The photos show the full kit she's been using to get everything set up – plus a favourite picture from another site where she was lucky enough to find some beautiful dormouse footprints in a tracking tunnel.
If you’ve never seen them before, dormouse prints are tiny and incredibly delicate… often looking like little pizza slices or cake wedges (depending on whether you’re more of a savoury or sweet person! 🍕🍰). That’s exactly what we’ll be hoping to spot next week 👀
Tracking tunnels are a fantastic non-invasive way to detect dormice – they walk over an ink pad and leave their footprints behind on paper, giving us clues about who’s been passing through. Every print tells a story!
Please come and join us for the BioBlitz on Saturday 27 June and help us check the tunnels, come pond dipping, look for birds, butterflies, moths and beautiful flowers.
