A popular play area has been transformed after a £33,300 revamp, giving local families a safer and brighter place to play.

Our playground team cleaned, repaired and repainted the tired equipment at Regent Park in Morecambe, and removed the old safety surface for a specialist contractor to lay brand-new wet-pour surfacing.

The £27,500 cost to resurface the play area was funded through a combination of council investment, a £400 contribution from the Friends group and a successful £18,723 grant from Lancashire Environmental Fund.

We also added a new £5k spinner to replace a faulty roundabout.

It is important to us that children have space to be active, build confidence, make friends and enjoy the outdoors and thanks to this joint investment, local youngsters can now enjoy a refreshed play space 😀

Would you hand your waste to someone without knowing where it's going? Unfortunately, that's exactly how many fly-tips start.

😔The road you couldn't get down as it was blocked by a dump.
😔The countryside view spoiled by a heap of unwanted goods - This is sometimes rogue waste collectors who have taken your cash to remove your unwanted items, only to dump them illegally elsewhere.

So far this year, we've responded to an average of 23 fly-tipping reports every day.

We’ve launched a consultation looking at the future of Blue Badge parking in our pay and display car parks.

There are four options on the table:

Option 1 – No change, continued unrestricted and free Blue Badge parking in council pay and display car parks
Option 2 – Three hours' free parking for Blue Badge holders, with normal parking charges applying thereafter
Option 3 – Blue Badge holders pay normal parking charges but receive one extra hour of parking free of charge
Option 4 – Removal of the Blue Badge parking concession scheme

Nothing has been decided yet, so whether you’re a Blue Badge holder, resident, business or simply have an interest in our parking services, please take a few minutes to share your views.

We’re all made miserable by fly-tipping. So far this year, we’ve responded to an average 23 fly-tip reports every day.

This is costing us all:
☹️Taxpayers are losing out as this money which could be spent on other services.
☹️Communities are suffering eyesores in their public spaces.
☹️Our crews are spending time clearing up the dumps, instead of focusing on other jobs.

While we investigate fly-tips, there is something everyone can do to help - a quick check of who you pay to take away your unwanted household items away.

Increasingly rogue waste collectors convincingly advertise their cheap and quick removal services on social media, and you probably are not aware that you are unwittingly paying for them to dump your waste illegally in a
nearby street, lay-by or park.

Ready to lead environmental protection for one of the UK's most stunning and diverse districts, without needing to be based locally full-time? We are looking for a Senior Environmental Health Officer to join our Environmental Protection team.
