A new forum for supported accommodation providers has been launched to help improve housing for vulnerable residents across Lancaster and Preston.🏘️

The Supported Housing Provider Forum is a valuable space for providers to share expertise and learn how to effectively raise and maintain high-quality standards — ensuring tenants thrive.

Organised by experienced officers working in the Supported Housing Improvement Programme at Lancaster City Council and Preston City Council, there are no fees to join and events feature a variety of guest speakers.

Sadly, there’s been recent incidents of antisocial behaviour at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre cycle racing circuit, where the track has been damaged, and cyclists have been targeted – which could have resulted in injuries.

We’re proud of the purpose-built facility, which is well-used by so many people, from families teaching children to ride to cyclists training and competing – in a safe, traffic-free environment.

It's disappointing that theses incidents have occurred and glad that no one was injured as a result.

But even unintentional actions, like walking across the track when it is in use, can have serious consequences, particularly when cyclists are travelling at speed.

We know most people value this space as much as we do, and using the track for its intended purpose helps to keep everyone safe.

So, just a reminder if you’re visiting the area, please:
• Keep the track clear when it’s in use and use alternative paths or grassed areas, particularly when walking dogs
• Give way to bikes on the track
• Report any damage or hazards to Salt Ayre so they can be dealt with quickly
• Report antisocial behaviour incidents to the police

* Obviously, the dog and person have been added on top of the cycling footage - so that no one was at risk of harm.

The yellow heat health alert for the north west has been updated by the UK Health Security Agency and is in effect from 10am today until 5pm on Thursday ( May 28).

The yellow alert means that there are significant impacts possible across health and social care services due to the high temperatures.

🟠 Amber heat‑health alerts have been extended until Thursday 28 May and now include the South West, alongside the South East and central England. Check in on vulnerable people and know what to do if someone becomes unwell in the heat.

Headed out for a swim or water sports?🌊

If you get in trouble in the water, remember Float To Live:
• Tilt your head back with ears submerged
• Relax and try to control your breathing
• Use your hands to help you stay afloat
• It’s OK if your legs sink, we all float differently

Remember it. Practise it. Share it. Stay safe,

☀️ With high temperatures across the country, it’s important to keep safe at work.
There’s no set legal maximum working temperature - every workplace is different - but employers still have a duty to protect staff and manage risks.

Simple steps will help reduce risks, such as dehydration and heat stress:
💧 providing drinking water
🌬️ improving ventilation or shade
🕒 allowing extra breaks and flexible working

Our Environmental Health team works alongside national regulators like the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to help keep workplaces across Lancaster district safe.

When the HSE inspectors visit premises, part of the work our officers do to keep residents safe is to check that businesses are:
• Carrying out risk assessments, especially for working at height
• Using equipment that is fit for purpose and well maintained
• Making sure staff have the right training to do their job safely

This week, we’re encouraging everyone to take a moment to spot everyday hazards at work that can lead to a fall – which account for around a third of all reported incidents each year.

👀 Look out for:
• Wet or uneven surfaces
• Trailing cables or cluttered walkways
• Poor lighting
• Using the wrong equipment

✅ Simple checks:
• Keep walkways clear and tidy
• Report hazards when you see them
• Use the right equipment safely
• Take extra care in busy or unfamiliar environments
