We need your views to help shape a new strategy aimed at tackling homelessness and rough sleeping over the next five years.🏡

The strategy has been shaped by a detailed review of homelessness across the district, including speaking directly with people who have experienced it.

Many people think homelessness can be solved simply by giving someone a home. The reality is often much more complex.

People facing homelessness may also be dealing with financial hardship, relationship breakdown, poor mental health, addiction, or a combination of challenges that make recovery difficult.

This is why the strategy seeks to strengthen a joined-up approach with closer working between councils, health services, charities and faith groups to better help with a co-ordinated response to the challenges of homelessness.

Whether you have personal experience, work with people affected by homelessness, or simply care about your local community, we'd like to hear from you.

Plans for a new solar-powered EV charging hub in Lancaster have been given the green light.

The new hub on the Auction Mart Car Park will generate clean electricity to power eight bays, helping make EV charging more affordable, accessible and convenient.

Funded through Defra Air Quality Grant funding and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, construction is expected to begin later this year, with the hub due to open in 2027.

Just a reminder that today and tomorrow we are resurfacing the area immediately outside the main car park at Ryeland Park in Lancaster.

The car park will be closed while we repair areas where the surface has deteriorated. We know parking is important to many visitors and we're sorry for the inconvenience. These improvements will help make the park safer and more accessible for everyone, so we thank you for your patience.

We're also going to be improving a number of other paths within the park, including areas near the wildflower meadow and the entrance closest to the garage.

These works are being carried out by Lancaster City Council as part of our responsibility for maintaining paths and surfaces within our parks. We are not responsible for public roads or highway potholes, which are looked after by Lancashire County Council.

Paying for parking at St Nicholas Arcades car park has just got even easier.
We've introduced free public wi-fi throughout the car park, making it simple to use the RingGo app.
The upgrade comes after customers told us that mobile phone signals could be patchy in some areas of the concrete structure.
Simply connect to the Lancaster City Council branded wi-fi network: "Community Wi-Fi", accept the terms and conditions, and you're ready to go.
So, whether you're heading into St Nics for some shopping, or visiting Lancaster city centre, paying for your parking via the RingGo app has never been easier.

Our new solar farm at Burrow Beck is now generating renewable energy that will help fund vital council services.⚡

Based on current forecasts and energy prices, our combined renewable energy portfolio is expected to provide a financial benefit of around £550,000 per annum.

But the benefits do not stop there. The site is also being transformed into the district’s first habitat bank, subject to registration, with new wildflower meadows, hedgerows, trees and aquatic habitats creating space for wildlife to thrive. 🌱

Historically, the site was grazed, and this will resume once the grassland is sufficiently established, as part of a carefully managed conservation-grazing regime.

We are in the process of sending letters to residents aged 75 and over where we hold contact details to help them make sure that they are receiving all the benefits they are entitled to.

The letter will include a simple coupon that can be completed and returned using the Freepost address provided.

✅ No stamp required
✅ Free and confidential benefit check
✅ Support from experienced Welfare Rights advisers
✅ Help to claim any benefits you may be entitled to

If you or someone you know receives a letter, simply complete the coupon and return it to Welfare Rights using the Freepost address.

If you don't receive a letter, don't worry. If you are of pensionable age and would like a free benefits check, you can still take part by contacting the Welfare Rights Service directly on:
