A lovely day out Connecting with Nature with the Forest of Rowland AONB at Winney Hill Farm, where we helped in brushing horses, cleaning stables and went for a walk around the farm.

Last week was busy on our Carnforth Library project. On Wednesday we had a workshop where we did some planning for our Library Open Day in July. Then on Saturday we were at Lancaster University, giving a talk about our project as part of a study day on โ€˜Libraries and Learning in the North Westโ€™. It was great to be part of an event celebrating histories and reading and libraries in our region and to reflect on how our research adds to that history. Many thanks to the Regional Heritage Centre for hosting this event!

When Roya Nangial walked into her first Lancaster coffee shop after arriving from Afghanistan, she saw a gap she was determined to fill.

After an Ugali-based lunch cooked by Rebecca from South Sudan which was particularly enjoyed by our African friends, we were delighted to watch 6 short films made by 20 people on the Lancaster University Film Studies short course for refugees. The films ranged from the beauty of Lancaster and Morecambe, to cooking a Congolese meal (made by another resettlement family), to a story of redemption, to cleaning up a yard, to exploring experiences of immigration in the Latino community in London. Really diverse and interesting. We hope to share them in due course. In the meantime, congratulations to all those who made the films, and all those who made the course happen, including Eleanor and Somayeh and, of course, Maryam from the university without whom it would not have happened ๐ŸŽฌ

Tomorrow is the start of A Million Acts of Hope week, to celebrate the kindness, compassion and solidarity of local communities, building bridges, not walls. Thanks to Stanleys Community Centre Morecambe and Cornerstone for being so welcoming ๐Ÿ™

Lancaster and Morecambe asylum seekers and refugees share food and friendship with communities in Lancaster and Morecambe every week, which is being celebrated as part of the national A Million Acts of Hope week (May 13-20).
