Congratulations to the scrap store at Shoreham’ Circular Space. 50 tonnes of what could have become waste for landfill has been recycled into creative use. All under the umbrella of local non-profit community arts organisation Over the Moon. Pictured at the celebration to mark the 50 tonne milestone; me with Emily from Over the Moon. A new public art project that celebrates Shoreham’s maritime history is being unveiled at Coronation Green this week - and you’re invited to a special launch event.

Titled Shadow Ships, the artwork by artists Dawn Parsonage and Peter Hudson from Light Space Color features metal and coloured glass silhouette sculptures of boats and ships that were built in Shoreham or have an important connection to the river Adur.

This Friday (15th May) from 1.30pm the artists will be hosting a special unveiling event at Coronation Green, where they will be joined by many of the people who helped with the project, as well as the RNLI and local sea shanty group The Salty Mares who will be performing on the day.

Five of the ships were chosen from a shortlist of 15 possible contenders, with over 600 of you voting for your favourites last year. The sixth ship, Ship of the Future, is from the imaginations of the Year 5 children at Buckingham Park Primary School - who will see it for the first time at the launch event.

There will also be a chance to listen to some unique stories and reflections about life in Shoreham from residents by scanning the QR codes on each ship or find out more about the history of the ships via a free booklet that you can pick up at the event.

Coronation Green will be temporarily closed to the public this week while the artwork is installed, but will open again ahead of the unveiling.
