A hosepipe ban has been introduced in Cornwall by South West Water. The decision follows one of the driest periods in recent years, with rainfall across the South West remaining well below seasonal averages over many months, and leading to the Environment Agency declaring half of England, including the South West, in drought.

Whilst the hosepipe ban does not apply to businesses, councils cannot use hosepipes and sprinklers to water hanging baskets, floral displays, flower beds or other ornamental planting in public areas such as town centres and parks. Therefore we will remove the hanging baskets from the Town Hall and war memorial areas and store them so they can be watered with watering cans until such time as the ban is lifted and we can return them on site.

A30 Kennards House to Five Lanes, Road Safety Improvements
starting on the 5 September 2026 – March 2027. The work will include:
• Junction and visibility improvements
• Improvements to traffic signs, road marking and road studs
• Improvements to safety barriers
Safety improvements along the A30 from Kennards House to Five Lanes as part of our ongoing commitment to reduce the number of people harmed on our roads.
What to expect
To carry out the work safely, the installation of traffic management will require full overnight closures (9pm-6am) of the A30 between Kennards House and Five Lanes, from 5 September to 10 September.
From 7 September there will be one lane open in each direction on the A30 between Five Lanes and Kennards House with a 50mph speed limit in place for the duration of the scheme. Free recovery will be in place 24/7 during the work.
There will also need some further full carriageway closures on the A30, junction closures and traffic lights during the works. Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout.
We expect this work to cause delays, particularly at peak times (Fridays and weekends), so we advise drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.
Closure dates and diversion routes
The dates of our full A30 closures and junction closures are on our website. During closures, a fully signed diversion will be in place. Please follow diversion signs and not satnavs.
For diversion maps and further information please scan the QR code or visit:

We are investigating safety improvements to the A30 from Kennards House to Five Lanes that would improve road safety for drivers and local communities.

Please don’t light fires during this hot, dry weather.

We’ve recently been made aware of fires being deliberately lit on land at the top of Coronation Park. With so little rain recently, the ground and vegetation are extremely dry, meaning even a small fire can spread very quickly.

This area is close to businesses, homes, play parks and places people visit everyday. What may seem like a little bit of fun can very quickly put lives at risk, damage property, harm wildlife and take valuable emergency service resources away from other incidents.

Please help us keep our community safe by not lighting fires and by reporting anyone you see doing so. If you witness a fire being started or one that is spreading, call 999 immediately.
