We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded a grant from Stratford-on-Avon District Council to install a mains water tap at the allotments in Hall Lane. This will be a massive improvement to the site and will ensure the long term future of the allotments. If you're interested in taking on a plot in Hall Lane or at the Pineham Farm site (off South Parade), we still have a few available. Please get in touch and we'll be happy to show you round.

Sightings of rodents in High Street

We have recently been contacted by local residents who are concerned about rats having been seen in and around the High Street area of Harbury. We have reported this to environmental health at SDC which no longer operates a pest control service but they have offered the following advice:

Rodents are common in rural areas where they can make use of hedgerows, fields, vegetation, compost areas and other sources of food, water and shelter. During these warmer months rodent activity can be more noticeable.

We would advise residents to take the following steps:
- Keep household and animal food in sealed containers
- Avoid leaving food out for birds or other wildlife
- Ensure that pet food is not left outside overnight
- Keep refuse and food waste securely contained
- Maintain compost bins appropriately
- Remove sources of standing water, food and potential shelter where reasonably practicable

Where rodents are being seen on private land, responsibility rests with the land owner or occupier. As SDC no longer offers a pest control service, residents experiencing rodent activity may wish to arrange treatment with a suitably qualified pest control contractor.

An on-line survey has opened for anyone wishing to comment on the emerging joint Housing and Homelessness Strategy for Warwick and Stratford-on-Avon District Councils.

The strategy will set out the vision and priorities for housing across South Warwickshire and is looking at the homes and neighbourhoods people live in and the support they might need to find, keep, or move to a suitable home. It will also look at the different types of homes and landlords that are needed.

The five main areas that both councils think the strategy should focus on are:

• To deliver a diverse supply of housing to meet local needs
• Prevention of homelessness and reduction in rough sleeping
• That homes are safe and meet the decent homes standard
• Homes are warm and energy efficient
• To provide exemplary housing and landlord services

We want to hear all views and understand the issues that matter most to our communities.

The survey will remain open until 11 August.

Please take a few minutes to take our survey.

It has been established that the road crossing The Pound is in fact owned by WCC and the large pothole that has caused a problem recently has now been added to their jobs list for repair. We were able to find the necessary documentary evidence in the parish council's archives that show The Pound was sold to the parish council by WCC in 1972 for.....£1! But, only the grassed areas were sold to the parish council, with the road specifically being retained by WCC for the purpose of maintaining the highway. We hope the pothole will be repaired soon.
