Longer, warmer days change more than just the weather. Each change of season, children have to adapt.
Have you noticed your children feeling a little more emotional, energetic, dysregulated, or maybe struggling with sleep? You’re not imagining it.
As the world tilts on its axis, days get longer and warmer, our bodies adjust — and children often feel these shifts deeply. More daylight can affect melatonin (sleep hormones), later evenings can disrupt routines, and all the extra stimulation, heat, excitement, and schedule changes can make emotions feel bigger.
And honestly? Us adults feel it too. We may feel more tired, overstimulated, restless, or “off” without always connecting it to the season.
This is your gentle reminder: regulation can wobble during change of season. More patience, earlier wind-downs, extra snacks, hydration, quiet moments, and lowered expectations can go a long way.
Children aren’t giving us a hard time — often, they’re having a hard time adjusting.
Summer shifts us all. ☀️💛
