Access Ancestry & Findmypast for Free at Lechlade Community Library and Tourist Information Centre

If you’re researching your family history, it’s worth knowing that Ancestry and Findmypast are free to use on all public computers in the library. No subscription is needed — simply log in via our library access.

Ancestry now includes browsable parish records for Dorset and Warwickshire, along with indexes for the parish of Kensington, Middlesex.

Findmypast provides access to parish chest records from Plymouth and West Devon.

These collections can be extremely valuable for tracing baptisms, marriages, burials, settlement examinations, and other local records that were traditionally stored in parish chests.

Whether you’re starting your family tree or filling in long‑standing gaps, our free access to these resources can help you explore newly available material.

🧟‍♂️🌩️ Frankenstein Day at Lechlade Library… if you dare

The candles flicker… the storm rumbles… and somewhere in the dark, a story is waiting to be told.

Frankenstein Day marks the birthday of Mary Shelley, born in 1797, whose groundbreaking 1818 novel Frankenstein; or The Modern Prometheus reshaped Gothic literature and helped spark modern science fiction.

The tale of Victor Frankenstein and the creature he assembles began as a ghost‑story challenge — a spark of imagination that grew into one of literature’s most haunting and culturally influential works.

If you’d like to revisit Shelley’s masterpiece or explore one of its chilling retellings, we can order directly to Lechlade Community Library and Tourist Information Centre for you. Pop in, or place a request online — we’ll summon your book from the catalogue and let you know the moment it arrives ⚡📚

A perfect read for a stormy evening… though perhaps not alone.
