New The Townsend Nursery

New The Townsend Nursery The Townsend Nursery- providing high quality Early Years education, love and care in a home from hom The Townsend Nursery was established in 1999.

The nursery is set in the back wing of a listed Queen Anne Farmhouse and stunning orchards. The nursery provides high quality early years education, love and care, in a home from home environment guided by highly qualified, committed and trained staff in partnership with parents. We firmly believe that children learn best from first hand experiences. We aim to suport social linguistic and emotiona

l development by providing children with enriched learning environments both indoors and outdoors. We use the farm as a rich resource where children can explore the seasons using all of their senses, listening to the bees in the orchards in the spring, picnicing by the stream in the summer and tramping through the fields in their wellies in autumn and winter. We are a registered forest school and each week the children enjoy forest school activities like den building and bug finding activities. Above all else we aim to help prepare children for life, helping them to become confident, life long learners.

We had a lovely visit down to forest school this morning. The children helped to make a bird feeder using the hammer to fix the coconut shell to the tree, then filled it with bird food. We enjoyed hot chocolate cooked on a fire.

We got gifted a beautiful national trust book called Birds of a feather. Inside there were some of the British birds that we may find in our gardens or in the countryside. The children carefully slotted the pieces together to make the birds. We then identified and labelled them.

The children put together the lifecycle of the Dandelion. We had a yummy forest school picnic, did some bug hunting and played games, such as, ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf?’
On our walk back up we had a look at how the blossom is doing on Malcoms trees! 🌸

This morning we talked about what plants need to grow. - Soil, sunshine and water. The children helped to fill up the plant pots with compost, they each planted a runner bean and gave them lots of water. We are going to measure our bean plants each week as they grow and see how much they change. They also helped us to refresh our outdoor pots with new bedding plants 🌱 🫘 🌺 .
