Rescue is now officially closed. The last gorgeous hedgehogs to leave was Pudding and Arabella.

To those fantastic supporters who had set up a standing order to us monthly please please consider transferring it to another hedgehog rescue rather than cancelling it. Any hedgehog rescue would really appreciate it as we are all self funded. Our bank account is now closed and funds transferred to Hedgehog Emergency Rescue, Bingley Yorkshire HERBY.

Yesterday was very emotional knowing I had no hedgehogs in rescue to look after and never would again. Today I’m putting my big girl pants on and sorting through equipment and stock to distribute to my fellow rescues.😢🦔😢

Thank you all so very much for all your kind words on my previous post, It’s been an emotional read.

Remember not all hedgehogs hibernate so please continue to leave food out throughout the winter months and check water regularly, especially in these freezing temperatures.

Hedgehogs out in the day are not ok. Please contact www.yorkshirehedgehogs.co.uk for your local rescue.

Thanks to everyone for everything 🙏

It’s with much sadness but also excitement that I write this post.

From December 2023 our humble little rescue will permanently close. We have been lucky enough to find our forever home in the countryside. This is something we have always wanted but never found the perfect place, until now.

We are sad to close but very proud that we have rehabilitated and released over 1000 hedgehogs back into the wild in the 4 years we have been open. It is definitely bittersweet as this had not been planned so we are still in shock.

We will be distributing everything mainly between Hedgehog Emergency Rescue, Bingley Yorkshire HERBY Prickly Pigs Hedgehog Rescue and Garforth Hedgehogs Rescue.

Thank you to everyone who has helped, donated, volunteered and supported us, we certainly couldn’t have done it without you all. Much love hoggi hero’s 🦔🦔🦔🦔

PLEASE continue to leave food out in winter, not all hedgehogs hibernate. Please also check water dishes often and refresh regularly 🙏

Libby has gained her discharge papers, her sister Iggy should not be far behind her. She will be in a soft release enclosure until
she has acclimatised to the outside world.

Annie a fosterer of ours spotted 3 babies in her garden on sunday afternoon. By the time they had found gloves 2 had hidden. Hedgehogs can get a wiggle on!
Woody was only 127g, Annie found the 2nd on Monday afternoon by standing quietly in the garden and heard snuffling around a nearby bush, in came Jerry.
We almost gave up hope of no 3 being found in time to survive another cold night. Tuesday night the cat helped them locate Kit who was the biggest of the triplets but still only 152g

Sadly rescue was fulI to bursting point so Annie offered to keep them at home until rescue had space. She wouldn't even attempt to look after them without having been involved in the rescue centre for last few years. Training as a general nurse coming in handy along with hour by hour support from the rescue that is 5 mins drive away.

They are now settled in rescue with us thanks to Annie and her family.

A message below from Annie is very kind.

Keep up any donations and words of support for the amazing work done by rescue trying to, hopefully, stave off the extinction of one of our iconic mammals.

Star has a happy ending she was spotted in the Star pub in East Keswick. She was a teeny tiny starving 74g when Michelle kindly volunteered to collect her and bring her to rescue. A few weeks later we were contacted by whom they believed were the garden to which Star had ran from when garden works were being carried out. They wished to have her return to their garden and so collected her along with an enclosure for soft release. She went from 74g to 690g. Farewell ⭐️

Belle has left for soft release, Bill left a short while ago but still visits his release garden. Hopefully Belle will do the same. These were the babies found trapped in a disused pond. Please have escape route’s for wildlife in your garden pond whether it’s full of water or empty. These guys were very lucky, now big, healthy and ready to enjoy the wild.
