Barwick-in-Elmet and Scholes Parish Council

Barwick-in-Elmet and Scholes Parish Council This is the official page of Barwick-in-Elmet and Scholes Parish Council. It is run by volunteers

The Parish Council is charged with looking after the best interests of the villages and is involved with planning applications, street lighting, maintaining public areas including roads and footways and assisting community groups, as well as influencing county, regional and Government decisions that affect the area. Although operational responsibility for crime control lies with the police, the Pa

rish Council monitors events closely through monthly crime reports and works with the police to ensure that the community is a safe and pleasant place in which to live. A separate committee of the council is charged with reviewing planning applications and making recommendations to Leeds City Council Planning Department regarding their progression. Current planning applications can be viewed on the Leeds City Council website. Local clubs and associations are financially independent of the Parish Council and manage their own affairs. However, where appropriate the council will support these groups with financial grants and logistical support to assist these community groups to flourish.

This evening I took my little girl to the Barwick playground about 6pm, a young boy was playing football on Jack heaps. Without being asked, He picked up a load of plastic drinks bottles , crisp packets and some other rubbish off the playing field and put them in the bin, then when back and got more. I said what a wonderful thing he had done. He began to make a polite conversation and asking how old my little girl was and her name. He was such a polite and well mannered young man.

At times we see many complaints about children in our area, sometimes casting a negative image on our young residences and I wanted to share this with the community to highlight that we also have some wonderful children and young adults in our community and they should be celebrated and applauded for their positive contributions to our community.

Thank you again to that young man for his effort to keep Jack heaps free from rubbish.
