Barwick-in-Elmet and Scholes Parish Council

Barwick-in-Elmet and Scholes Parish Council This is the official page of Barwick-in-Elmet and Scholes Parish Council. It is run by volunteers

The Parish Council is charged with looking after the best interests of the villages and is involved with planning applications, street lighting, maintaining public areas including roads and footways and assisting community groups, as well as influencing county, regional and Government decisions that affect the area. Although operational responsibility for crime control lies with the police, the Pa

rish Council monitors events closely through monthly crime reports and works with the police to ensure that the community is a safe and pleasant place in which to live. A separate committee of the council is charged with reviewing planning applications and making recommendations to Leeds City Council Planning Department regarding their progression. Current planning applications can be viewed on the Leeds City Council website. Local clubs and associations are financially independent of the Parish Council and manage their own affairs. However, where appropriate the council will support these groups with financial grants and logistical support to assist these community groups to flourish.

The Parish Council has been contacted by members of the public who have been narrowly missed by golf balls whilst out walking across the football or cricket pitches or having a quiet game of bowls.

We would kindly ask therefore that members of the golfing community do not use the cricket or football pitches for practicing their swing.

We want everyone to enjoy our facilities in safety. There are driving ranges nearby so anyone wanting a bit of practice.

We thank you for your co-operation.

Our Ward Councillors are exploring the possibility of opening a GP facility in an alternative location in Scholes, and would greatly value your views. They have created a survey.

The deadline is 8th June 2026.

Feel free to re-post this to other Village community pages.

This evening I took my little girl to the Barwick playground about 6pm, a young boy was playing football on Jack heaps. Without being asked, He picked up a load of plastic drinks bottles , crisp packets and some other rubbish off the playing field and put them in the bin, then when back and got more. I said what a wonderful thing he had done. He began to make a polite conversation and asking how old my little girl was and her name. He was such a polite and well mannered young man.

At times we see many complaints about children in our area, sometimes casting a negative image on our young residences and I wanted to share this with the community to highlight that we also have some wonderful children and young adults in our community and they should be celebrated and applauded for their positive contributions to our community.

Thank you again to that young man for his effort to keep Jack heaps free from rubbish.

Huge Thank you to everyone who helped with the tree planting project this last month our planting for the 2025 season is now finished. We had the children from Barwick in Elmet Primary School plant up on Tower Hall and Barwick Allotment and 90 children from year 6 Scholes Primary Scholes come and plant on Scholes lodge field. We could not have done it with out them and great to see some many young people out protecting their environment! Thank you again!
