We are pleased to announce that our Honorary member, Tom Long, has been awarded the British Empire Medal, in the King’s Birthday Honours list.
Whilst the citation says for services to his community in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, we are aware of Tom’s dedication and love for the Association.
He continues to try to get, from the powers that be, the recognition that the Flotilla deserves for their service in Hong Kong via the awarding of the General Service Medal, to all those who served, including posthumously.
Our heartiest congratulations on a well deserved honour.

In ocean waters no poppies blow,
No crosses stand in ordered row,
There young hearts sleep beneath the wave,
The spirited, the good, the brave,
But stars a constant vigil keep
For them who lie beneath the deep.
'Tis true you cannot kneel in prayer
On certain spot and think. "He's there."
But you can to the ocean go...
See whitecaps marching row on row;
Know one for him will always ride,
In and out with every tide.
And when your span of life is passed,
He'll meet you at the "Captain's Mast."
And they who mourn on distant shore
For sailors who'll come home no more,
Can dry their tears and pray for these
Who rest beneath the heaving seas...
For stars that shine and winds that blow
And whitecaps marching row on row.
And they can never lonely be
For when they lived... they chose the sea.

The flagship of the Royal Navy, HMS Bulwark, has sailed into Greenwich, in support of activities for the 350th anniversary of the Royal Marines. Here are a varied selection of photos from the archive.
The questions who are those featured in the photos (although the one in the sun, is pretty obvious) but also where have the photos been taken, no Hong Kong is not a good enough answer

Well, well, well, our young representative in Hong Hong has been busy wining and dining this week.
Takes a friend from China to a seafood lunch,
Attends a lunch to launch a new book (no not his) but a very good one.
Yet another lunch at the Holiday Inn, not too sure what this one was for.
There seems to be a theme developing here, could it be regular lunch dates, female company but no, being young and innocent, your writer believes it to be a nautical theme.
Well that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Ok, ok some of you will have seen this photo many times.
Peter “I Loved My Time in Hong Kong” Yeates would always ensure that it was included in the magnificent photo montages that he created at every re-Union.
Now, folks, it’s over to you. Are you related to any of the shipmates pictured here? Did you serve with them?
We would like to trace anyone who has a connection with any of these fine fellows.
As always please email hongkongflotilla@ gmail.com.
We would really appreciate hearing from you.

I have been requested to add another album/category to the present list. This is to feature a sort of “where are they now”. This idea behind this section would be to feature photos which relate to members of the Flotilla and their families.
We are a very far flung Association and perhaps it would be nice to keep up to date with weddings, holidays, in fact any news that ties back, even tenuously to the Flotilla.
Let’s just call it “News”.
Work on expanding our page has already started and we would like to welcome your contributions, in whatever format but one of the best ways that you can help is by sharing our posts with family and friends.
It is a little like throwing a pebble into a pond, initially there is just the circle where the pebble entered the water but then look how many circles grow from that.
So please Contribute, Like, Share and Comment. Let us make sure the Flotillla and those who served are never forgotten.

Good day to all our readers.
As you are, hopefully, aware the aim of our page is to provide a “home” for the archive of photos that we, already, hold of the Flotillas time in Hong Kong from 1948 to 1959.
This archive contains, not only, photos relating to the Royal Navy but also to life “in general” in Hong Kong during that time.
We have consulted with Facebook and made arrangements to change the construction of the page. The purpose is to more accurately archive the photos. They are rather ad hoc at the moment.
Whilst we hold a reasonable archive, we really would welcome even more. The categories we will use are “Flotilla”, “Royal Navy in Hong Kong”, “Life in Hong Kong 1948 to 1959” and “Modern Hong Kong from 1960 to Present”
If you have any photographs, albums etc hidden away in the loft, in that cupboard that holds everything ,pull them out. Send them to the Flotilla. We will copy, return them to you and refund your postage.
