All our lessons are for 30 minutes, are booked 10 weeks in advance and take place at Leeds Grammar School with my receptionist Cheryl. We teach 1-5 children ratio, we also provide 1-3, 1-2, 1-1 ratios.
There is no need for parents to bring swimming aid equipment (e.g armbands) as it is all provided .
Parents are encouraged to stay and watch there child/children's lessons. There is a viewing gallery at the grammar school.
Please can I ask that all parents/carers stay on the viewing area and not crowd the pool side as it is a health risk. The instructors will let you know when it is your lesson.
GROUPS AND BADGES
Starfish offer swimming lessons from the age of 4 years. 4 year olds are taught in small groups of 1-4 ratio.
We teach our lessons in six main groups:
Beginners
Advanced beginners
Intermediates
Improvers
Rookie Lifesaving
Awards
We will asses children at all times and move children around to the appropriate group when needed
We run a nationally recognised badge scheme. This is the Swim England badge scheme, which starts from the duckling badges, rainbow distance badges and gold challenge awards. We do not run the Leeds city council 'dolphin' awards scheme. Instructors asses children per badges on the booking day (I.e every 10 weeks). Badges are only given to children who have completed the award and the instructor is fully satisfied that he/she has achieved the skills needed for the certificate, every child is an individual and learns in different ways. The awards have to be achieved with good quality recognised strokes, e.g breastroke, backstroke and front crawl.
FUND DETAILS
lessons run on a 10 week course, booking takes place at the Grammar school on both booking days Wednesday 18:00-19:30 and Friday 18.00_20.00.
Cheryl is my receptionist and takes booking on both days. Cheques are payable to 'starfish' or Bank Transfer
We do not refund lessons if parents are away I.e holiday, long weekends or weddings etc. we do not refund missed lessons for minor illnesses I.e headache, sickness, cold, etc. we do refund lessons missed for serious illnesses for example a child was to miss all five lessons due to a serious illness, we would refund three lessons, the two lessons charged would act as a deposit to keep the childs place open.
Lessons run on a ten week course , bookings take place in advance e.g you book your next block of ten weeks on the 10th week of every course.
If for any reason you do not wish to carry on your lessons please let myself know " if lessons are not paid for within two weeks of the course you will lose your swimming place
TERMS TIMES AND CLOSURE
Our lessons are continuous and take place throughout the year. We run Term time unless stated in letter or poster form to let you know we are closed. If the unfortunate circumstance arises and you arrive to your lesson and it is closed and you have not been informed this is usually down to the fact that the grammar schools pool may have broke
