Please note that the principle authority for Leek is the Staffs Moorlands District Council - for waste management and housing enquiries etc.

Leek Town Councillors attended a ceremony for Armed Forces Day at SMDC led by the Royal British Legion, Chair Cllr. Linda Malyon and attended by Deputy Lieutenant of Staffordshire, Judy Scott Moncrieff, District and Town Councillors, Fire Crew from Leek Fire and Rescue, St Leonards and East Street School representatives.

SCC have just launched a public survey for cross-pavement solutions (EV Gullies), this is an infrastructure solution that will enable households that must park on-street (as they do not have driveways) to access their home electricity tariff. Closing date is Sunday 26 July

Leek Town Council is inviting Tenders for the above contract
Lengthsman Duties

The applicant must be self-employed with insurance cover and a vehicle. Hours are flexible due to seasonal responsibilities, so an hourly rate is preferable.

Contract will run from 1st July 2026 to 1st July 2028

The successful applicant will be responsible for a wide range of duties throughout the year, (Please note these are indicative duties and may be subject to change) including the following:
Emergency response to Town assets issues (ie. accidental damage)
Advising the Town Clerk on maintenance matters
Maintaining assets such as benches, noticeboards and war memorials
Watering town hanging baskets and planters
Allotment maintenance and pest control across seven sites
Assisting with Town Council events including road closures
Liaison with other local maintenance suppliers
Litter picking at specified areas in Leek.
Strimming/w**ding/chemical w**d treatment in town centre locations

Linked to the RLSS National Drowning Prevention Week (13-20 June), My Active are offering water safety talks to all first schools in the Moorlands and High Peak.

This involves a MyActive colleague(s) attending schools in person to give pupils an interactive talk on the importance of water safety, some of the dangers and ways they can keep themselves as safe as possible.

In light of the recent circumstances, My Active will be extending this offer to middle schools across the Moorlands, bringing this important message to pupils up to the age of 13yrs.

My Active have recently introduced "Swim Smart. Stay Safe" modules to our swimming lesson programme, which currently reaches 1800 children enrolled. We expect this to be more than 3000 children once MyActive Leek opens in August.

These additional modules teach water safety skills including water safety awareness, safe entry and exit, basic survival skills (float to survive) and what to do in an emergency situation.
