Leicester is a city we should all be proud of.

That’s why comments like these from local business leader Mark Robinson matter.

His message isn’t about party politics. It’s about the gap between the Leicester many of us know and love, and the reality people see when they walk through parts of the city centre today.

Too many residents tell us the same thing:
▪️ The city centre feels tired
▪️ Standards have slipped
▪️ The city deserves greater ambition

Leicester has incredible strengths, from our businesses and universities to our culture, sport and diverse communities.

But pride in our city should never mean pretending everything is fine.

Leicester deserves cleaner streets, thriving businesses, safer public spaces and a city centre people are excited to visit again.

We’re now oversubscribed for our Leicester Business Session at the National Space Centre 🚀

That says something about where Leicester is right now.

Businesses across the city want their voices heard 💬 Not after decisions are made. Not once the damage is already obvious. Now.

From the city centre to neighbourhood high streets, too many local businesses feel like they are battling through rising costs, empty units and weak support while Leicester slowly loses confidence in itself 📉

People are tired of watching decline become normal.

This event may be full, but the conversation cannot stop here.

Walk through Leicester and you can see it. 👀

Too many streets feel tired.
Too many local places feel ignored.
Too many residents are paying more and getting less back. 💸

This city should feel looked after.

That means:
🧹 Cleaner streets
🛡️ Safer neighbourhoods
🏙️ A stronger city centre
🏡 Community spaces protected
💷 Council money spent on the basics people actually notice

Leicester Conservatives are rebuilding a local team that puts Leicester first. 🔵

Because Leicester deserves better than this.

If you feel the same, join us.

Help us stand up for the streets, shops, parks and communities that make Leicester home. ❤️

£130 per household spent. Now the council’s own visitor targets have already been missed.

This is what Labour calls a success story.

💸 Families charged £12.50 to enter a museum they already paid for through taxes
🍝 £5.50 for a sandwich in the café
🚗 Expensive parking and a struggling city centre
📉 Visitor numbers already below target

This is what Labour focuses on.

Leicester Conservatives said from the start that local people should not be priced out of their own history. Residents already paid for this museum once.

Leicester first. Vanity projects last.

Do you think Leicester residents should get free entry to the Jewry Wall Museum?

For a lot of Leicester parents, adventure playgrounds are one of the few places left where kids can just be kids safely.

They’re where friendships are made 🤝
Where young people stay active ⚽
Where parents know their children are somewhere safe instead of stuck indoors or wandering the streets 🛝

Now Leicester’s much-loved adventure playgrounds have had their funding slashed by more than 50% 💔

And this comes just weeks after Peter Soulsby publicly claimed Labour could “continue funding the playgrounds” because of a better settlement from government.

So which is it?

Because local families are now being told:

⏰ Opening hours have already been cut
☀️ Summer playschemes could be cancelled
🚸 Children could lose a service they’ve relied on for years

Meanwhile, local Labour councillors have barely said a word.

This is what frustrates people in Leicester.

Residents are paying more, yet the things that matter to ordinary families keep getting cut back, closed down or quietly neglected.

People just want safe places for children to play, decent local services and a city that feels like it cares about its communities.

Did you use an adventure playground growing up, or do your children use one now? What would losing services like this mean for your area?

Another city centre independent Leicester spot has announced it’s closing. 🍕💔

This time it’s PETER Pizzeria.

That place had proper atmosphere. Good food. It made people actually want to spend time in the city centre. Not to mention the comedy nights.

And now it’s going.

Their statement says building issues forced the decision, but you can’t ignore the wider pressure independent businesses are under right now either.

Higher costs. Higher taxes. Higher staffing bills.

Meanwhile Leicester’s city centre is already struggling with empty units, expensive parking and falling footfall.

Slowly, the independent places with personality that make Leicester feel like Leicester are disappearing, while Labour stay focused on vanity projects.

If you’ve ever been to Peter Pizzeria, what’s your go-to order or favourite memory from there? 🍕
