This step forward reflects the hard work I’ve put into improving competence and maintaining high standards within fire safety, as well as my ongoing commitment to delivering thorough, reliable, and compliant fire risk assessments.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way — your encouragement has made a real difference.

🛑 "A Fire Safety Disaster Waiting to Happen"
Those were the words of a UK judge just a few months ago during the prosecution of a firm for major fire safety breaches. The result? A staggering £120,000 fine and a massive blow to the company’s reputation.
Recent data shows that fire safety compliance in England has hit a 14-year low. Nearly half of all buildings are failing their initial audits. The top reasons?
🚨 Blocked or locked fire exits.
🛠️ Maintenance failures on alarms and lighting.
đź“„ Inadequate or missing Fire Risk Assessments (FRA).
At MJL Compliance, we see the FRA as more than just a legal requirement under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. It is the blueprint for keeping your people safe and your doors open.
The True Cost of "Just Getting By"
A "check-box" FRA might save you a few pounds today, but it won’t save you from:
Unlimited Fines: Regulators are no longer issuing warnings; they are issuing summons.
Insurance Invalidity: If a fire occurs and your FRA is outdated, your payout could be zero.
Operational Shutdowns: As we saw in recent warehouse fires in London and Enfield, a lack of preventative assessment can lead to total property loss.
Is Your FRA Actually Fit for Purpose?
Don’t wait for a Fire & Rescue Service audit to find out you’re part of that 43% failure rate. Our team specializes in identifying the "hidden" hazards that standard checklists miss—from compartmentation issues to faulty electrical intake rooms.
Compliance isn't a burden—it’s the foundation of your business continuity.
Is your Fire Risk Assessment up to date for 2026?
Don't let your business become a headline for the wrong reasons. Let’s get your site secured.

The recent devastating fire at Union Street in Glasgow—which has forced the closure of Glasgow Central Station and led to the collapse of a historic Victorian building—is a stark reminder of how quickly a localized incident can escalate into a city-wide crisis.
While investigations are ongoing, reports indicate that the blaze began in a v**e shop, with experts highlighting the significant role of lithium-ion batteries.
The "Silent" Risk in Your Business
Lithium-ion batteries are everywhere—from e-cigarettes and power tools to laptops and e-bikes. However, when stored in bulk or handled incorrectly, they present a unique fire hazard known as thermal runaway.
Unlike conventional fires, lithium battery fires:
* Self-Sustain: They produce their own oxygen, making them incredibly difficult to extinguish.
* Escalate Rapidly: One failing cell can trigger a chain reaction in adjacent batteries.
* Reignite: They can appear "out" only to flare up again hours later.
Why a Robust Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) is Non-Negotiable
At MJL Compliance, we see many businesses overlook the specific storage and charging requirements for these high-energy devices. A generic fire plan is no longer enough in a world powered by lithium.
A professional Fire Risk Assessment ensures:
* Hazard Identification: Pinpointing where battery storage could lead to a catastrophic failure.
* Mitigation Strategies: Implementing correct charging zones and specialized suppression equipment.
* Compliance: Ensuring your business meets the latest safety regulations to protect both lives and property.
Don't wait for a "wake-up call" like the one we saw this week in Glasgow. Ensure your premises are truly protected.
Protect your people. Protect your property. Protect your legacy.

Keeping safety at the top of the class. 🏫
It’s been a high-speed start to the week for the MJL Compliance team!
We’ve spent the last two days on-site at two schools in Birmingham, conducting thorough inspections to ensure a safe environment for students and staff. There is no better feeling than knowing a building is truly compliant and secure.
No rest for the dedicated, though—we’re heading to London this Wednesday for our next round of site visits.

Compliance shouldn’t be a "tick-box" exercise. It should be a retention strategy. 🇬🇧🤝

In the UK care and education sectors, we often hear "compliance" and think of bureaucracy, paperwork, and the dreaded "red tape." But at MJL Compliance, we see it differently.

After 20 years of working alongside Registered Managers and Headteachers, we’ve noticed a pattern: The safest buildings often have the happiest teams.

Why? Because fire safety is ultimately about Psychological Safety.

In a high-pressure care home or a busy school, your staff are already carrying a heavy mental load. When they know their environment is expertly managed—that the fire doors are fully compliant, the FRA is up-to-date, and the evacuation procedures are seamless—that "background noise" of worry disappears.

Building "Statutory Trust" in 2026:

Beyond the Fines: While avoiding a "Notice of Deficiency" is vital, the real win is demonstrating a genuine Duty of Care to your staff. People stay where they feel protected.

Operational Peace of Mind: We don’t just spot hazards; we provide pragmatic solutions that work with the flow of your building, not against it.

The MJL Standard: Our assessors are DBS-cleared and IFSM-registered. We understand the sensitivities of working in "Good" or "Outstanding" rated facilities where minimal disruption is a priority.

Fire safety shouldn’t be a hurdle you jump over once a year to keep the insurers happy. It should be the foundation that allows your team to focus on what they do best: providing world-class care and education.

Is your current fire safety strategy merely compliant, or is it actually supporting your people?
Let’s ensure your premises aren’t just "legal," but truly safe.

Why are 43% of buildings failing their first fire audit? 📉
The latest Home Office statistics for 2026 are out, and the numbers are a wake-up call for the industry. National compliance has hit a 14-year low, with nearly half of all buildings failing fire safety audits on the first visit.
The most common culprits?
Blocked or locked escape routes: Simple to fix, but often overlooked in daily operations.
Wedged-open fire doors: A classic "convenience" that negates thousands of pounds in safety tech.
Outdated Risk Assessments: Plans that don't reflect the building's current use or resident profile.
At MJL Compliance, we see these "hidden" failures every day. Compliance isn't a mountain of paperwork you only climb once a year; it’s a living, breathing part of your building’s health.
Our approach? Compliance Made Simple.
We don't just hand you a list of failures. We provide a clear, prioritised roadmap to get you from "At Risk" to "Fully Compliant" without the headache. Whether it’s your quarterly communal fire door checks or an annual Fire Risk Assessment, our DBS-cleared team has the 20+ years of experience needed to spot what others miss.
The goal isn't just to pass an audit—it's to ensure that if the worst happens, your safety systems actually perform.
Is your property ready for a spot check? Let’s make sure you’re in the 57% that pass, not the 43% that don't.

🛑 The "Paper Compliance" Trap is Closing.
For years, many property managers treated Fire Risk Assessments as a yearly tax—a piece of paper to file away and forget.
That era is officially over.
As of January 27, the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) is now a standalone body with one clear mandate: Enforcement. We are already seeing local authorities move from "advice" to "prosecution" with record-breaking, unlimited fines for non-compliance.
If your strategy is to find the cheapest "box-ticker" to sign off on your Fire Risk Assessment, you aren't just risking a fine—you’re risking your reputation and the lives of your residents.
Why 2026 is Different:
The PEEP Deadline: By April 6, Person-Centred Fire Risk Assessments (PCFRAs) and PEEPs aren't just "good practice"—they are a legal requirement for buildings over 11m.
The Golden Thread: "I didn't know" is no longer a legal defense. The BSR expects a digital, transparent trail of every safety decision made.
Unlimited Fines: Recent 2025/26 prosecutions show that the courts have lost patience with "deliberate ignorance."
The MJL Standard:
At MJL Compliance, we don’t do "drive-by" assessments. Our assessors are IFSM-registered, DBS-cleared, and trained to find the risks that others miss. We move beyond the checklist to provide Total Property Protection.
Stop "ticking boxes." Start protecting assets.
Is your current FRA worth the paper it’s printed on, or is it a liability waiting to happen?
👇 Let’s talk about a real safety strategy before the April deadline hits.
