Well deserved 👏👏👏 its been a pleasure to know you all these years and watch MHM grow...
Thank you from all at the BMF and all those who's lives you have touched

Mental Health Motorbike

We're thrilled to announce that our CEO, Paul 'Oxo' Oxborough, has been made an OBE in the King's birthday honours list this year for his services to mental health and to charity.

Paul dedicated the award to his late friend, Dale Caffrey, and all those affected by su***de.

“Receiving this OBE leaves me deeply humbled and extremely honoured. But my mind goes back to a funeral six and a half years ago. There, I made a promise to a family of a friend I’d lost: that I would do everything in my power to stop others from ending their lives by su***de.
“I didn’t start this charity to win awards, but this honour is a profound validation of how important our work is. It lights a renewed fire for me and the team about how we must keeping doing what we do.
“I dedicate this OBE to the millions of hearts broken by su***de; you are the reason we do what we do. We will keep building that safety blanket of support for those who need us so the loss of our loved ones isn't in vain."

Well done Paul, from everyone at Mental Health Motorbike, and from all those whose lives have been touched by your years of dedicated service.

Who's planning on getting out on their bike this weekend? 🏍️

Before you ride, take a few moments to carry out one of the most important safety checks on your motorcycle - your tyres.

Your tyres are the only contact point between your bike and the road.

Making sure they're in good condition not only helps protect you, but also other road users around you.

Remember to A.C.T:

🛞 Air Pressure
🛞 Condition
🛞 Tread Depth

A simple check takes just a few minutes but could help prevent a serious incident.

The British Motorcyclists Federation is proud to support TyreSafe in encouraging riders to make tyre checks part of every ride.

Ride safe and enjoy your weekend.

Rev up and get ready to go with a quick 5-minute tyre check before every journey. Just think ACT - Air Pressure, Condition, and Tread Depth.

The British Motorcyclists Federation (BMF) attended the 2026 TyreSafe Annual Briefing and Awards, held on 10 June at the Belfry Hotel & Resort in North Warwickshire.

This year’s event marked the 20th anniversary of TyreSafe, celebrating two decades of work as one of the UK’s leading road safety organisations.

At the heart of TyreSafe’s work is a simple but vital message: regular tyre checks save lives.

Through its well-known ACT campaign, motorists and riders are encouraged to routinely check their tyres for Air Pressure, Condition and Tread.

For motorcyclists, tyre safety is particularly important. Unlike other vehicles, a motorcycle relies on just two small contact patches between machine and road. Tyres are therefore one of the most critical safety components on any motorcycle, directly influencing stability, braking, handling and overall rider safety.

My latest blog was inspired by two things.

The conversations we had at the Bike Drop Confidence workshops in Solihull with Apex MCT Motorcycle Training recently, and a coaching conversation with a client this week.

Both highlighted something I see time and time again.

Many riders think motorcycle confidence comes from pushing through fear. - we hear the 'feel the fear and do it anyway' a lot. But is that the right thing to do on a motorcycle when your nerves affect how you hold the bike and the decisions you make?

And what if confidence actually comes from something else?

What if it comes from accurately assessing the risks, managing them effectively and building trust in yourself over time?
After all, that's exactly what advanced riding systems such as IPSGA teach us to do on every ride.

In this blog, I explore why our nervous system often exaggerates risk, why embarrassment can sometimes feel more threatening than injury, and how a simple risk assessment process can help you build motorcycle confidence without simply forcing yourself through fear.

I'd love to know what you think. Will this help how you prepare for riding?

Ride to Work Day 2026 🏍️

Today, motorcyclists have been swapping four wheels for two, demonstrating the many benefits of riding to work.

We're proud to share this video featuring just some of the team within the British Motorcyclists Federation who took part - whether riding in, parked up at work or simply showing their support for the day.

Motorcycles help reduce congestion, ease pressure on parking, and can play an important role in a balanced transport network. Most importantly, they bring enjoyment to the daily commute.

Did you 'Ride To Work' today?

🏍National Young Rider Day puts rider safety in the spotlight for a new generation of riders 🏍

National Young Rider Day 2026 is shining a spotlight on the growing number of young people using motorcycles and scooters for gig economy work, while also marking the launch of a new campaign ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

As part of the initiative, 500 high-visibility vests have been produced for distribution to gig riders in city and town centres across the UK. The vests are intended to improve rider visibility and encourage safer riding practices among those working in fast-paced urban environments.

Organised by the National Young Rider Forum (NYRF), National Young Rider Day takes place today (9 June) and aims to celebrate young riders while promoting safer riding habits.
It comes at an important time, with recently released figures showing 384 riders were killed on Great Britain’s roads in 2025, a year-on-year increase of 13%.

The campaign recognises the increasing role that motorcycles and scooters play in the gig economy, providing flexible employment opportunities for many young people. However, riders can face unique challenges, including time pressures, busy traffic conditions and long working hours.

To help address these risks, the campaign is promoting a series of key safety messages for gig riders:
• Reduce speed and ride defensively, especially in busy urban areas.
• Do not let time pressure or app incentives push you into unsafe riding.
• Take regular breaks and avoid riding when tired or fatigued.
• Avoid using your phone while moving – stop safely before checking an app.
• Check your bike before every shift, including lights, brakes and tyres.
• Wear appropriate protective and high-visibility equipment at all times.

Organisers are encouraging employers, delivery companies, road safety professionals and partner organisations to share these messages and support riders throughout the day.

They are also signposting riders to the SCORSA website for more information on how to stay safe as a GIG rider.

National Young Rider Day will also see the launch of a new campaign linked to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Running throughout the tournament, the campaign will use social media platforms to engage young riders with important road safety messages.
The World Cup campaign will focus on a range of issues affecting rider safety, including the dangers of riding while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Particular attention will be given to raising awareness that impairment can still affect riders the morning after drinking alcohol or taking drugs.

The campaign will be delivered through TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X, with young riders encouraged to follow the channels and share the content throughout the tournament.

Finally, organisers are also hosting a free-to-attend online event on 30 June from 6pm to 6.40pm.

Delivered in partnership with Warwickshire Road Safety Partnership, the session is designed to support young riders on all aspects of riding, providing practical advice and guidance to help them stay safe on the roads.

Heidi Duffy MBE, facilitator of the NYRF, said: “Young riders ride motorbikes for many reasons, and we want to help them enjoy it safely. National Young Rider Day is an opportunity to highlight the challenges riders face, share practical advice, and engage with young people through the channels they use every day.
“By combining targeted campaigns, free resources and expert support, we're helping riders build skills, confidence and safer habits for life.
"The NYRF would like to thank its partners, including The Road Safety Trust, for their continued support.”

National Young Rider Day was established in 2023 by the National Young Rider Forum and provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges facing young riders while celebrating the benefits that motorcycles and scooters can offer for transport, employment and independence.

Ride To Work Day 9th June 2026:

“Ride To Work Day” provides an opportunity for individuals to switch from cars or public transport to two-wheels for their daily commute and experience reduced congestion, improved mental health well-being and reduced carbon emissions.

“Ride To Work Day” is an international campaign, with similar events happening in other countries across the globe. Its aim is to promote the use of motorcycles, mopeds, and scooters as an important mode of transport, not only for commuting, but as a an affordable and accessible transport option for all ages.

Paul Morgan CBE, the BMF’s Government Relations Executive says:

“To fully unlock the benefits of motorcycling for improved mobility, better mental health wellbeing and for the environment, motorcycling needs to be fully integrated into the mainstream of UK transport policy

The BMF encourages all riders to get on their bikes on the 9th June 2026 and use “Ride To Work Day” to demonstrate why motorcycling and motorcyclists need to be front and centre of the Government’s future transport strategy; providing a sustainable, cleaner and greener transport option both now and for the future.”
