🚓 One Year of Operation Hopper 🚓
Leicestershire Police is marking one year of , our targeted crackdown on high‑risk and uninsured drivers.

Over the past year, Hopper has:

Removed over a hundred dangerous vehicles from our roads

Tackled over five hundred outstanding speeding and red‑light offences

Protected communities through intelligence‑led enforcement

Matt Chester, Leicestershire Police Road Safety Unit manager says:

“Operation Hopper sends a clear message — if you repeatedly put others at risk, we will take action.”

"We’re not slowing down. Year two will bring more enforcement, more visibility, and even stronger road‑safety results for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland."

Don’t drive on assumptions. Over 17% of tyres are already illegal at the point of replacement, with a further 40% considered borderline. That means many drivers are already at risk without realising it. Tyres wear down gradually, making it easy to miss the warning signs. By the time they are replaced, safety may already be compromised. When did you last check your tyres properly, and are you confident they meet legal standards?

Roll up, roll up Bookface fans! I know you all love a little pop quiz.

If you've had a few alcoholic beverages in the nice weather, do you
A/ get a taxi wherever you are going
B/ make some bus fwends
C/ get in your car with your 4 year old kid, pull out in front of Sgt Alex's beloved Insignia, Geoff, making him fully test the brakes, blow over the limit get yourself arrested, get noted to to already have an impending court date for drink driving.........

If you answered A or B, a nice gold star for you. If you answered C, a prize! A nice shiny pair of handcuffs 🙄

Just as well the brakes were good on Geoff, here is a picture of him contemplating his near death experience

🚫 Off the Road Means Off the Road! — Understanding SORN Vehicles

A vehicle that is declared SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) is officially registered as not being used or kept on a public road. This usually applies when a vehicle is untaxed, uninsured, or not in use for a period of time. A SORN vehicle must be kept on private land, such as a driveway, garage, or private land—it cannot be parked on the street or any public highway at any time.

It’s important to remember that a SORN vehicle must not be driven under any circumstances while the SORN is in place. Driving or even parking it on a public road without the correct tax and insurance is an offence and could result in fines or enforcement action. If you plan to use the vehicle again, you must tax and insure it before returning it to the road.

Ensuring your vehicle is correctly registered and compliant helps keep our roads safe and avoids unnecessary penalties. ✅
