🎗️ Ovarian cancer is the second most common gynaecological cancer in the UK, yet awareness remains critically low.

📊 Research shows that 40% of women wrongly believe that cervical screening detects ovarian cancer. This misconception, along with a lack of symptoms awareness, means many women are at risk of late diagnosis - often when the disease is harder to treat.

🚨 This month, we're working to bust myths and raise awareness.

🎗️ We’re proud to have worked with Cancer Research UK to deliver 12 Talk Cancer workshops across the East Midlands, helping 223 people build confidence in talking about cancer prevention, screening and early diagnosis.

👏 Between Dec 2025 and May 2026, 223 people came to online, face-to-face and Train the Presenter sessions. The change has been amazing:

✅ 98–100% felt more confident talking about cancer after the training
✅ Confidence discussing cancer screening rose from 39% to 98%
✅ Confidence talking about fears about cancer rose from 52% to 99%
✅ 99% were happy with the workshops overall

💬 Attendees described the sessions as “culturally relevant”, “hopeful” and praised the empathy and care shown throughout.

By supporting community workers, volunteers, health professionals and other trusted voices, we’re helping important cancer information reach more people across our communities ❤️

🎯 Head and Neck Cancer: A 2026 EMCA Priority
Early diagnosis of head and neck cancer can be life-saving. Yet too many cases are found too late.

This year, we're on a mission to help more people find head and neck cancer earlier because:
➡️ Over 11,000 people are diagnosed every year.
➡️ Find it early means simpler treatment and better results.
➡️ HPV-related cases are rising, especially in men.

🛑 Know the signs: persistent sore throat, hoarseness, mouth ulcers, or neck lumps.
☑️ Act early.
☑️ Refer early.
☑️ Talk about it.

Let’s raise awareness and help more people beat head and neck cancer.

If you’re aged 60–74 in England, you’ll receive a bowel cancer screening kit by post.
It’s quick, easy, and could save your life.

Amanda had no symptoms.
She almost didn’t complete her bowel cancer screening because she thought she was too young.
✅ She did the test.
📣 She was diagnosed with bowel cancer.
💙 If she hadn’t completed her screening, she wouldn’t be here today.

🩺 Oesophageal Cancer: A Clinical Priority
We understand the importance of picking up early signs of cancer of the foodpipe (oesophageal cancer). They are often masked by common symptoms like reflux or difficulty swallowing.

As a priority cancer this year, we're focussed on:
➡️ Getting the right people sent for further testing as soon as possible
➡️ Supporting our GPs to recognise early symptoms
➡️ Supporting our patients with compassionate, informed care

Together, we can help more people survive oesophageal cancer for longer 📈
