Pennington Flash Pennington Flash Nature Reserve is a place of natural beauty - attracting wildlife to its 70 hectare lake or "Flash" .

Walkers, cyclists and horse riders benefit from well maintained paths and over 230 bird species keep bird watchers happy in one of the many hides overlooking the Flash. Facilities include: Information Centre, children’s play area, picnic and recreation areas, fishing on certain shores, sailing, windsurfing and rowing through Leigh and Lowton Sailing Club.

Leigh Ornithological Society Pennington Flash Volunteer Group were embracing the crisp weather this week, getting stuck in to clearing one of the ponds on site for the benefit of our resident wildlife 🐸🦢🦋

Fancy joining them? The group meet on the car park every Wednesday at 9.30am and work on various projects across the site 💚

A huge thank you to the wonderful volunteers for their support in keeping our national nature reserve such a beautiful place! 🌳

New Saturday morning routine? ✅

Kick the weekend off to an energetic start with Pennington Flash parkrun! 🏃

The 5k run begins at 9am every Saturday, with a welcome briefing for any first timers starting at 8.50am ⏰

📍The starting point is signposted and is a 5-10 minute walk from the main car park.

Don't fancy the run but still want to get involved? The parkrun is entirely volunteer led, and they're always looking for new faces to support! 🤝

Head to their page for more information, and make sure to treat yourself afterwards for a well earned brew and a bite to eat from The Hide Coffee House! ☕️

Things are brewing at The Hide Coffee House! ☕👷‍♂️

We're glad to report that the work for our new extension at The Hide Coffee House are right on track!

The groundworks for the foundations are now complete, and the cabling and pipework for additional services have been installed as our redevelopment work continues to progress.

They're still open 9am-5pm everyday this month, so please don't forget to stop by!

Autumn is made for muddy boots, woodland adventures and making memories outdoors 🍂

At Pennington Flash Forest School, little explorers can enjoy storytelling, nature-inspired crafts, outdoor play and plenty of opportunities to discover the wonders of the natural world. Plus, there's a brand-new mud kitchen ready to spark creativity and imaginative play! 💭

With sessions for varying ages, from nestlings to wildlings, make this the season the kids truly embrace getting outdoors and into adventure 🌳

Join a welcoming community of likeminded, friendly and supportive folk, here in the heart of our National Nature Reserve 💚

📍 Complete Kindness CIC host a weekly walk, meeting every Thursday at 11am outside The Hide Coffee House before heading out to lose themselves in the beautifully winding paths of Pennington Flash.

The walk culminates 'between the trees', at the Complete Kindness CIC basecamp, where you'll have the opportunity to sit down and unwind together 🌳

🤝 Spend time in nature, switch off and enjoy great company. Join the group tomorrow, or any Thursday, at 11am!

The many moods of the grey heron 💭

One of the sites most spotted residents, you'll find grey herons living their best lives on our open water, reedbeds, wetlands... even nesting up our trees! 🌳

But more often than not, you're likely to spot them keeping very still by the water's edge, patiently waiting for their next meal 🐟
