It’s insect week this week…. Not only are we giving Ā£5 off every pre-booked ticket between 22.6.26 and 28.6.26 but every day we are highlighting one of our amazing insects. Today it is an assassin bug called Psyttala horrida, the horrid king assassin bug, seen here in its home at The Bug Parc. It is the largest assassin bug in the world at nearly 5cm long and hails from west Africa. That scary looking appendage on its face is its rostrum which it uses to impale it’s live prey before injecting a potent venom which liquefies its insides into a protein rich soup which it then sucks up like a straw in a milkshake !!! Just one of the amazing critters at The Bug Parc, book today with a Ā£5 discount using the code INSECT WEEK at the end of your booking.

This morning, one of our stick mantis was just putting the final touches to its Ootheca (eggsac). When you think that they create this eggmass purely by feel as they can’t see what they are doing, it shows nature at its best. The frothy white mass will turn brown as it hardens and it will then protect the hundred or so eggs from attack from predators such as ichneumid wasps. In 4 to 6 weeks we will hear the patter of hundreds of tiny feet and new life starts all over again. We have a large display of over 25 different mantis species… book now for a great day out. THIS SUNDAY DADS COME FREE WITH ANOTHER FULL PAYING TICKET….pre book your free ticket now !

I was quite surprised today when my staff told me we had a special visitor in one our visitors houses, Kirby house. Sitting in the rafters above scorpions and tarantulas it seemed quite at home admiring the view !! It’s been so hot today that the doors were open and obviously it was a bit too enticing for this lonely partridge who snuck in and was relaxing on its high vantage point. Our expert zoo keepers gently coaxed it down and set it free to enjoy its evening at The Bug Parc. Being in the middle of Nowhere Lane in the middle of nowhere we get plenty of wild birds on our site and we even have nesting Pied wagtails !!!

We are really pleased today as one of our orchid mantis eggsacs erupted with new life this morning…. One of the prettiest mantis, it’s great to have a huge hatch like this. Now we just have to find enough flies to feed them šŸ™ˆšŸ™ˆšŸ™ˆšŸ™ˆbreeding our animals is so important to ensure we have enough animals to show in our 200+ display tanks.

We have lots of millipedes at The Bug Parc and this is just one of the creatures often held in our ever popular handling experiences. Their legs moving in synchronised waves is so therapeutic to watch, and they feel amazing when they walk on your hand. Our group handling experiences last 50 minutes, and often book up fast, especially during school holidays. At just Ā£2.50 per person the experience is not to be missed, but remember book early so as to not miss the chance to hold some of our amazing creatures. Why not treat dad to this fabulous experience as dads go free at the Parc on Father’s Day if booked with a full paying ticket… book it now.
