✅ Make sure logs and other flammable items are stored away from your stove or open fire.

Today we remember Leading Firefighter John Davies (Leominster) and Firefighter David Morris (Hereford), who tragically lost their lives fighting one of the largest fires that Hereford has ever seen.

They were among the 130 firefighters who attended the fire at the old 'Sun Valley' factory on September 6th 1993, at Grandstand Road, Hereford.

We will remember them both today, and always.

❌ Don't have BBQs.
❌ Don't light bonfires.
❌ Don't drop ci******es, matches or smoking materials on the ground.
❌ Don't leave glass bottles or litter in open spaces.
❌ Don't leave mirrors or reflective objects where they could focus sunlight.
❌ Don't use fireworks.
❌ Don't park vehicles on dry grass. Hot exhausts and catalytic converters can start fires.
❌ Don't burn garden waste.
❌ Don't use machinery that creates sparks near dry grass, crops or vegetation.
❌ Don't continue working if equipment is overheating.
❌ Don't ignore damaged exhausts, bearings or brakes that could generate heat or sparks.
❌ Don't let cut grass, straw or debris build up around engines and moving parts.
❌ Don't refuel machinery while it's hot or running.
❌ Don't leave machinery unattended while operating.

At last night’s drill night, we ran through some of the very first drills all firefighters learn when signing up to the brigade… pumps and ladders!

These are the principal skills that are learned early on, and are so fundamental to our skill set they are known as ‘core skills’. We have development firefighters due to be assessed on these very soon, so was it was a good opportunity for us all to run through them last night.

Today, we were kindly invited to attend AirFest ‘26 at Shobdon Airfield, where we got a chance to carry out an RTC drill. We were able to demonstrate some of the techniques and tools used during an RTC incident, and methods deployed to extricate a casualty.
