The North East Hertfordshire Labour Party and Chris Hinchliff MP went big on our summer social, partnering with Unruly Kitchen, a fantastic new Jamaican catering business in Letchworth, to welcome Dawn Butler MP to Herts.

Our constituency will bridge two unitary areas so it was great that activists from along the length of the A1M - Hitchin, Letchworth, Baldock, Stevenage - and the Eastern towns and villages, Royston, Braughing, Buntingford and Broxbourne all
Came together at the Grange Community Centre in Letchworth Garden City.

From the stores...

This week we are highlighting a woodcut from our stores. In this piece, mid-century artist J. Burwell creates a scene inspired by Hitchin Marketplace.

Burwell captures a familiar perspective, looking towards what is now the site of Starbucks, while offering a glimpse into the past. In the foreground, details such as a classic telephone box and a parked vehicle evoke a time when cars were still permitted in the centre.

Guidance from the Met Office. 👇

What to expect:
• A higher risk of heat-related illness
• Disruption to normal routines and working patterns
• Possible pressure on power and essential services
• Travel disruption on roads, rail and flights

How to stay safe:
• Drink plenty of water throughout the day
• Avoid the sun between 11am and 3pm where possible
• Wear sunscreen, light clothing and a hat
• Keep your home as cool as you can by closing curtains and windows

If you’re travelling:
• Check journeys before you set off and allow extra time
• Carry water and try to stay cool on public transport
• Look out for others who may be struggling

Please also check in on neighbours, especially older people, those with health conditions and anyone living alone. A quick call or knock at the door can make a real difference.

Today, Govia Thameslink Railway entered public ownership, including the Great Northern and Thameslink services used by many people in Letchworth Garden City every day.

This is an important step towards creating Great British Railways and bringing our fragmented rail network back together.

Reliable rail services are vital for our town. While public ownership won't solve every problem overnight, I hope it will help deliver the more reliable, accessible and passenger-focused railway that local residents deserve.
