Eastbourne Crematorium and Cemetery is opening its doors to the community on Wednesday 9 September.

While located in Eastbourne, the crematorium is also the nearest crematorium for many residents in the eastern part of Lewes district, making it an important local service.

The crematorium recently received an Outstanding rating following a comprehensive inspection by the Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities, placing it among the highest-performing crematoria in the country.

Throughout the day, visitors can attend free talks on:

• Funeral costs and planning
An open discussion on balancing personal wishes with available budgets, exploring which elements of a funeral are optional and how unnecessary costs can be avoided without compromising a meaningful farewell.

• What exactly is a direct cremation?
A straightforward explanation of direct cremation, helping to demystify the process and explore the advantages and considerations of this increasingly popular option.

• Planning ahead: A gift you can leave your family
Learn how planning ahead can reduce uncertainty for loved ones, ensure your wishes are known, and provide peace of mind for the future.

• Behind-the-scenes tours

Whether you're planning ahead, supporting someone close to you, or simply want to learn more about funeral and bereavement services, this is a welcoming opportunity to explore the facilities, meet the team and ask questions.

National Emergency Briefing on Climate Emergency Crisis

A film, presented by Chris Packham, is screening in communities across the UK to raise awareness of the implications of climate and nature breakdown for health, food systems, national security and the economy.

Communities and organisations are using a free-to-screen 50-minute film, based on the Westminster event, to brief the UK public about the climate and nature crisis.

You can find screenings happening in Lewes district using the interactive National Emergency Briefing Screening Map (link in comments).

If you love the Ouse, please try some of the simple tips below to help reduce unnecessary water waste. Remember, every drop counts! 💧

This World Water Week we're giving a shout-out to the brilliant local organisations working hard to protect the Ouse Love Our Ouse and Ouse and Adur Rivers Trust

Lewes District Council has championed the Rights of River Charter, which is a flagship piece of work by Love Our Ouse - find out more at https://loveourouse.org/rights-of-river/

World Water Week is a timely reminder that water is one of our most precious resources. 💧

This year, it comes as many parts of England continue to experience dry weather; a reminder that the water we rely on every day isn't unlimited. While protecting our water resources requires long-term investment, infrastructure and planning, the choices we make at home can help too.

Simple actions like taking a shorter shower, fixing leaks or turning off the tap while brushing your teeth, can all reduce unnecessary water use.

This , let's take a moment to appreciate our water and how we can use it wisely.
