Let us be your Bank Holiday Inspo 🏰

A historical treasure trove where kids can literally see and feel what life would have been like more than 600 years ago. Completed in 1399, we're amongst England’s best-preserved medieval castles and one of the most popular family attractions in the Yorkshire Dales.

Insider tip: there’s no need to worry about the weather with a family day out at Bolton Castle. If we happen to have another scorching heat wave, take shelter inside where the thick stone walls will keep you cool. And, for rainy days in the Yorkshire Dales, there are five floors to explore, so you won’t even notice drizzle.

Mary Queen of Scots: The Exhibition

6th March 2027 to 5th September 2027, Bolton Castle will host this immersive experience telling the story of Mary Queen of Scots. Explore the tragic story of Mary Queen of Scots, told with a rare collection of priceless artefacts and images.

Mary Queen of Scots has captivated the imagination of people around the world for over 400 years, and continues to do so through cinema and television: preserving the legacy that is Mary Stuart. It tells the history of the iconic Scottish Queen, from her birthplace at Linlithgow, in 1542, to her tragic death at Fotheringhay Castle, in 1587.

Using museum grade glass cabinets, historical artefacts are sympathetically displayed with coloured graphics, creating an atmosphere that enthrals and educates on the success and tragedy of her short life.
