Many of you will have seen that Worden Lane was closed yesterday, so we want to provide you with a bit of context and appeal for your help.
At around 11:25am, we received a report of a collision on Worden Lane between a car and a pedestrian.
We now understand that a Grey VW Polo had collided with a number pedestrians after mounting the kerb on a right-hand bend. One of the pedestrians, a 16-year-old boy has been taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he remains.
Two other pedestrians, a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy both suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the vehicle was unhurt, and one of the passengers suffered minor injuries.
Initial enquiries have led us to understand there were two other vehicles in the area shortly before the collision – a Grey Vauxhall Astra and a blue VW Polo. Both drivers of these vehicles have been traced.
An investigation is in it’s very early stages, and we are appealing for witnesses and footage that can assist us. If you were in the area and saw the pedestrians or any of the three vehicles, or if you have dashcam of them before or after the collision, or that captures the collision itself, please do the responsible thing and get in touch.
We know that this will be concerning to hear about and is something that will have been spoken about in the local community. We want to remind you that this collision has left a 16-year-old boy seriously injured and involves real people. If you have mobile phone footage, please send it to us through the appropriate channels.
We are also asking people to refrain from speculating online and allow our officers to carry out a full and thorough investigation appropriately.
