Our tenant Nathan enjoys volunteering at a community centre garden.

The Progress Futures Team at Progress Housing Group helped Nathan to take up a volunteering role at a local community centre.

Progress Futures officer, Phil, supported Nathan to find a volunteering role around gardening and being outdoors.

Nathan started volunteering at the allotment in March 2026. He has been painting garden furniture, planting seeds and is looking to set up a sensory garden.

Nathan said: “I have really enjoyed working with Phil. I love the allotments. I really enjoy being out in the garden and helping another volunteer Tina keep them looking nice.”

Our tenant Fiona enjoys attending the Tenant Chat group in Leeds.

The group meets every month. They talk about matters important to them and enjoy creating art and taking part in activities with Natalie, Customer Voice Officer, who runs the sessions.

Fiona said: “I just like being here. I like it when I am listening to people here and talking to people, and I like being friendly with people here as well.

“People like coming in, having a good time, doing some art, getting to know each other more, making friends.

“Everyone's lovely and polite and we all know each other now.”

Well done to everyone entered our art prize draw.

We asked for pictures of the activities that you enjoy the most and to take a photo or post your picture to us.

We were blown away by the amazing entries for our new art competition.

We had entries from our tenants about activities they enjoy like volunteering at a local museum and community gardening, and visiting the beach.

Well done to our winner, John, who drew a fantastic picture of the night sky and planets. John lives in Leeds.

The tenant chat group, open to RWP and LiLAC tenants living in Leeds, meets every month. They talk about matters important to them and enjoy creating art and taking part in activities.

They have created a welcoming, safe, and positive community.

In a recent meeting, everyone talked about worries on payment of bills. Sandra and Carl shared that there needs to be more understanding for people with learning disabilities and their advocates, and the support needed for paying bills.

Have your say

Stop Social Housing Stigma are looking to find out what tenants think about the language used around social housing.

If you are interested in sharing what you think, then there is a survey with questions which ask things about language that is used and how you think it could be made better.

Here is a link to the survey: https://f.mtr.cool/cqeqsxurww

Keeping your money safe

It is important to know what to do if someone takes your money when you have not asked them to. This is called financial abuse.

Taking your money or things without you agreeing to it is stealing.

This could be someone making you pay for things that for them and not for you or someone taking your benefits.

If you aren’t sure if someone is taking your money or you are worries, talk to someone you trust like you support worker.

We are now moving into warmer weather which means using the heating less and saving money on your energy bills. There are still lots of ways to save more energy in your home which will save you money.

Have you tried the following to save energy?
• Switching off appliances when you are not using them
• Closing your curtains when it is dark to keep rooms warm

It is Volunteers Week!

Our tenant Carl, who lives in one of our supported living homes in Leeds, volunteers in his local community and won an award for his fantastic work.

Carl has received an award for his volunteering work from Volunteer Team Leeds and we are very proud of him. The organisation thanked him for the time, energy and care he gives to helping others.

He volunteers at SLATE Leeds, a charity that supports people with learning disabilities into employment. He works in the furniture department, where he enjoys practical jobs such as putting feet back on sofas and moving washing machines.

He also spends time at Hollybush Conservation Centre, which runs nature-based activities for adults with learning disabilities.

We are supporting Pride month!

Pride month is a time to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community and understand the struggle people have experienced in fighting stigma.
We believe in equality and inclusivity for everyone!

Mencap has an explainer video which explains identity, gender and sexuality:

“People with a learning disability are just like everybody else. We can identify in lots of different ways.”

We have made changes to our tenant newsletter!

Some of our tenants talked about the newsletter and shared that they enjoy the photos, especially for tenant stories. It helps them to understand the news or story more.

What did we do? We decided to add a smaller amount of content to the newsletter to create more space and so there is less text.

For example, changing the number of pages assigned to tenant stories, moving this from one to two pages. We are now able to include more photos for a tenant story and create more space between text, helping to bring it to life more.
