Wall Roman Site Letocetum is the remains of a Roman settlement.

It was an important military staging post and posting station near the junction of Watling Street, the Roman military road to North Wales, and Icknield Street.

Heritage Open Days 2026 is just two weeks away and we still have some spots available on our guided tours. As well as tours on the 11th, 12th & 13th of September, our very own Dr Mike Hodder will be giving an extra guided tour on Sunday 20th September which will highlight the history and importance of Roman Wall. Have you seen our latest blog post? We were delighted to welcome Br Felix and Br Hugh, with companions Amy Claire and Jimm, to our site on Wednesday 19th August as part of their Franciscan Peace Pilgrimage, where tea, biscuits and good conversation abounded.

We are delighted to announce we are once again taking part in Heritage Open Days for 2026 with guided tours around our site! Tours will be available on Fri 11th, Sat 12th & Sun 13th of September, and visitors are advised to wear appropriate footwear and clothing as the tour will take place outside. Behind every artefact on display lies a great deal of care and conservation work. On 10th April 2026, we were delighted to welcome conservators Wendy Richardson and Connie Tang from English Heritage for one of their regular visits to the museum. Working alongside Friends of Letocetum conservation volunteer, Al Howard, the visit focused on ensuring that our Roman collections continue to be preserved to the highest standards.
