Last year, Maggi Huckfield was named Community Hero at the Beacon Awards 2025, recognising her incredible dedication to making a difference in Lichfield District 🏆

As founder and CEO of Liberty Jamboree, Maggi has spent years championing children, young people and adults with special educational needs and disabilities, creating opportunities for them to build confidence, develop independence and feel part of their community.

Since co-founding Liberty Jamboree in 2015, she's helped build an organisation that continues to transform lives, champion inclusion and give young people opportunities to thrive.

✨ Now we're looking for our Community Hero of 2026! Do you know someone who goes above and beyond for others? A dedicated volunteer, a community champion or someone quietly making a difference?

You might have noticed some of our flower beds looking a little bare recently, but don’t worry – there’s a good reason!

We joined Paul from our parks team behind the scenes at Beacon Park to find out how we’re getting our parks ready for winter 🍂

From giving some of our plants a new lease of life next year to preparing for a fresh splash of winter colour, there’s a lot more work going on behind the scenes than you might think!

Paul also shares a little about the care that goes into creating our beautiful Victorian-inspired flower beds at Museum Gardens.

We've been looking through your responses to our budget consultation so far, and one topic keeps coming up: roads and potholes.

It's an important concern, but did you know that roads and pothole repairs are the responsibility of Staffordshire County Council, rather than Lichfield District Council?

Although you pay your Council Tax to us, only around 9% goes towards the services we deliver. The rest goes to Staffordshire County Council, police, fire and parish councils.

Our share helps fund more than 60 services across the district, including bin collections, parks, housing, leisure, planning and environmental protection.

We're sharing a breakdown of where your Council Tax goes and what our share helps pay for, so you can make informed choices about our budget.

There's still time to have your say. Tell us which services matter most to you and how you think we should prioritise spending.

This Baby Loss Awareness Week (9–15 October), our thoughts are with everyone affected by pregnancy and baby loss.

District Council House is lit pink and blue this evening as a symbol of remembrance and support.

On 15 October at 7pm, you can join the global Wave of Light by lighting a candle in memory of all the babies lost too soon.

What’s on in our parks this October? 🍂

Get into the Halloween spirit with a puzzle trail at Beacon Park or enjoy the free I-spy trail at both Beacon Park and Burntwood Park. You can also get creative at Beacon Park’s Discovery Hub, making your own Halloween garland from upcycled books.

Fancy getting involved? Join one of our volunteering sessions and help us look after our parks and local wildlife.

Whether you’re enjoying some seasonal fun or lending a hand in nature, there’s plenty to discover this October!
