🍌 Did you know that around 40% of the average black bin is made up of food waste?

Last year, we worked with experts to analyse the contents of household bins across the district – and the results showed that a significant amount of what we throw away could be recycled instead.

From 20 July, food waste recycling will become part of weekly collections across Lichfield District and Tamworth.

Instead of ending up in general waste, your food scraps can be transformed into:
⚡ Renewable energy
🌱 Fertiliser for agriculture

From tea bags and coffee grounds to fruit peelings and leftovers, small changes can make a big difference.

Find out more about where your food waste will be going once we start collecting from 20th July 👇

🍽️ From restaurants and cafés to schools, care homes and local shops, our Environmental Health team works year-round to help ensure food businesses across Lichfield District meet the standards residents expect.

During April, 44 food businesses were inspected or reassessed, with the latest results showing nearly two-thirds achieved the maximum rating and almost 90% scored 4 or higher.

🌿 A simple change that makes a real difference.

This roundabout at Cannock Road, Burntwood Road and Miner's Way has been given a thorough clean as part of our Clean and Green programme, helping to create a more welcoming entrance into Burntwood.

The work has been funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, with local councillors identifying projects that will make a visible difference to their communities.

Clean and Green is a programme investing in practical improvements across Lichfield District – from cleaner public spaces and environmental enhancements to projects that help boost community pride.
