The Parish Council is made up of seven Councillors who volunteer their time to represent the interests of the residents. We liaise with North Kesteven District Council and Lincolnshire County Council along with other organisations about public services. The Parish Council meets once a month. Residents are welcome to attend our meetings, which are normally on the third Wednesday of each month at Witham St Hughs Village Hall, at 7.00pm, agendas are posted to our website 3 working days prior to each meeting. Once meeting notes have been agreed as the minutes, at the following Parish Council meeting, these will be available on the Parish website. Current Council members are:

Speak your mind on the Solar – now is the time!

The proposed solar developments cover about 10,000 acres, over 40 sq.km sprawling over 13 miles from the edge of Eagle to Rowston. Cranwell newly appeared and there are others in the pipeline. The Navenby public meeting was packed with strong objection to the industrial solar developments on farmland, while roofs lie vacant. The key that allows all the rest is the Electricity Power substation, proposed close to Navenby, along with hundreds of shipping containers of lithium battery. If you object to any of it, then you would want to object to this. Although the official date has closed, the Council is still taking comments. Please add yours and encourage others.

The Parish Council has been actively pursuing speed awareness measures for Azalea Road for some time. Following a meeting with the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership in November 2025, suitable locations for two Speed Indicator Devices (SIDs) were identified, quotations were obtained, and Lost Village kindly agreed to fund the purchase of the units.

However, following a subsequent traffic survey, Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) advised that the devices could not be installed at that time.

Due to continuing concerns from residents regarding vehicle speeds on Azalea Road, the Clerk challenged this decision with LCC last month and requested that the issue be reviewed.

We are pleased that LCC has now approved the installation of the devices. At last week's Parish Council meeting, councillors approved the costs associated with installing the required posts and also approved the current quotations for the indicators themselves.

We would like to thank Ben and Lost Village for their continued support and generous offer to fund the Speed Indicator Devices.

Azalea Road is now an adopted highway and falls under the responsibility of Lincolnshire County Council.

The Parish Council raised concerns during the original planning process regarding the lack of traffic-calming measures, but we were advised that the approved road design met the planning and highway standards in place at that time.

We hope that the installation of these devices will help encourage compliance with the speed limit and improve road safety for residents and visitors alike.

We have also today had a conversation with our County Councillor, Cllr Marianne Overton, and asked her to support the Parish Council and residents in seeking a reduction to the speed limit on Camp Road.

We will continue to press for measures that improve safety for everyone using this route and will keep residents updated as discussions progress.

🎉 Have a fantastic WithamFest 2026! 🎉

Witham St Hughs Parish Council would like to wish the Village Events Committee the very best for WithamFest 2026.

The committee has worked tirelessly this week to prepare and put on this fantastic event for our community, and we hope everyone has a brilliant time enjoying the music, food and festivities.

Remember have fun, drink plenty of water (BEER!) and, most importantly, have a fantastic time! 💧🎶🍻

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making WithamFest happen.

⚠️ Important safety notice: dry ground and cracking on village open spaces
Following several weeks with very little rain, the prolonged dry conditions are affecting some of the village’s open spaces. Because the ground is clay-based, it has dried, shrunk and begun to crack, with gaps and trench-like areas appearing as the ground moves.
This is particularly noticeable on the field in the centre of the village, where some areas have become uneven and may present a trip or injury risk.
Please take extra care when walking, running or playing on the open spaces:
• Watch carefully for cracks, gaps and uneven ground.
• Keep children under close supervision.
• Take particular care when running or using wheeled toys.
• Avoid any areas where the ground appears badly affected.
Anyone choosing to use these areas should assess the conditions carefully and do so at their own risk.
A contractor is due to attend next week and will attempt to fill some of the worst cracks and gaps with soil. However, until we receive sufficient rainfall to help the clay ground recover and stabilise, further movement and cracking may occur. We therefore ask residents to continue to be vigilant and take extra care when using these areas, even after the remedial work has been completed.
Thank you for your understanding and for helping us keep everyone safe. Please continue to take care, look out for one another and share this notice with anyone who regularly uses the village’s open spaces. We hope some much-needed rain arrives soon!

⚠️ Cuckoo Park – Temporary Closure Today ⚠️

A wasps’ nest at Cuckoo Park will be treated by a pest-control specialist at midday today.

For everyone’s safety, please stay out of the taped-off park during the treatment and for at least four to six hours afterwards. We strongly recommend avoiding the area for 24 hours, if possible, as the wasps may become agitated following treatment.

Please do not cross or remove the safety tape, and ensure that children and dogs are kept well away from the area.

We appreciate that there are homes close to the park, so we ask nearby residents to remain vigilant around their homes and gardens following the treatment.

🚧 Important Highways Works in Witham St Hughs 🚧
We've received a number of questions about the upcoming road and footpath improvement works. We have been in contact with LCC and wanted to provide residents with some additional information.
Lincolnshire Highways will be carrying out maintenance works on both the footpaths and road surfaces in the following areas:
📍 Blackbird Way
📍 Greenfinch Crescent
📍 New Swan Close
📍 Oak Tree Drive
📍 Partridge Green
📍 Raven's View
📍 Robins Crescent
📍 Sorrel Road
📍 Tall Pines Road
📍 Whitebeam Drive
What work is being carried out?
✅ Footpaths – A slurry seal surface treatment will be applied. This creates a protective sealed surface which helps extend the life of the footpaths.
✅ Roads (carriageways) – A surface dressing treatment will be applied using bitumen and loose stone chippings to protect and prolong the life of the road surface.
What residents need to know
⚠️ A temporary 20mph speed limit will be in force while the works are being carried out and during the initial bedding-in period. Please follow all temporary signs for the safety of residents, road users and the workforce.
⚠️ Please avoid walking on newly treated footpaths until the surface has fully cured. Material can stick to footwear and may be transferred into homes, onto carpets and other surfaces.
⚠️ Please avoid driving on newly treated road surfaces wherever possible until restrictions have been lifted. While they cannot deny residents access to their homes, reducing traffic on the fresh surface helps ensure it sets correctly and delivers the longest possible lifespan.
🚗 If possible, please consider parking elsewhere in the village during the works.
Working hours
🕖 Restrictions will be in place between 7:00am and 5:00pm. on the dates shown on the signage on each impacted road from 11th August
👷 There will be 2–3 crews working across the village and Lincolnshire Highways will be working to complete the programme as quickly and safely as possible.
What happens afterwards?
🧹 Lincolnshire Highways will carry out road sweeping following the works, with a further sweep planned approximately 7 days after the surface dressing. Additional sweeps may also be undertaken as required to remove loose chippings.
Once the initial post-works maintenance period has been completed, routine road sweeping will return to the normal arrangements provided by the District Council.
A request from Lincolnshire Highways
🙏 The main request is simple – please give the new surfaces time to bed in properly. Weather conditions, including rain or excessive temperatures, can affect the programme and may result in works being delayed or rescheduled.
By keeping traffic speeds low, avoiding freshly treated surfaces where possible and following any temporary restrictions, residents can help ensure the treatment performs as intended and protects our roads and footpaths for many years to come.
