After nearly 20 years of growing Miscanthus, Lincolnshire arable farmer Colin Chappell has expanded his crop area with a new planting of Terravesta Athena on lower-performing land.

As part of our Grower Stories series, we visited Colin to see how the new crop is establishing, and the early signs are promising, with Athena emerging faster than his long-established Miscanthus giganteus crop. 🌱

🚜 Kicking off our Grower Stories

We’re launching our Grower Stories series with Leicestershire farmer Brian Bevin, who shares how switching to Miscanthus has helped him tackle blackgrass, reduce inputs, and bring greater stability to his farming system.

A practical, proven approach delivering real on-farm results. Stay tuned for more stories from growers making the switch.

Not every field is suited to traditional crops, and that’s where Miscanthus is proving its value.

For flooded or lower-performing land, this low-input perennial can improve soil health, store carbon, and deliver reliable long-term returns.

🌱🎙️ Terravesta on The Farming Show!

Our MD, Florian Ilias, joined Steve Orchard on the Lincs Sound Farming Show to talk about an exciting new project supporting Ukraine’s energy recovery through Miscanthus. 🎧

The discussion also featured project partners Dr Richard Webster and Dr Danny Awty-Carroll from Liverpool John Moores University, alongside Tatiyana Stefanovska of Miscanthus Technology in Ukraine and Daryna Bantiuk from Fendt.

The MERIT (Miscanthus Energy for a Resilient and Inclusive Transition) project is exploring how Miscanthus grown in Ukraine can provide renewable energy, restore soils, strengthen decentralised energy systems, and supply sustainable materials for construction and rural revitalisation. 🇺🇦
