In a dangerous escalation of the spate of copycat trespassers we have seen following the TikTok & Facebook post a couple of weeks ago of self-proclaimed ‘urban explorers’ breaking into empty properties awaiting refurbishment in Church End, the hours of Saturday night saw perhaps half a dozen masked, equipped youths casing what seems to be the entire village of Leadenham.

In a night reminiscent of The Purge, posts and comments on the Leadenham Village Facebook group show how far and wide this activity spread. Doorbell cams as far apart as Rectory Lane and the Beauty Rooms have turned up images and footage of variously masked and unmasked perpetrators.

A resident of Church End called the police as they were disturbed in the middle of the night by at least 5 men wielding torches and making their way around the cottages. The police attended and found that they had broken the lock to access one of the cottages.

More than just trespassing, they broke into at least three properties, including breaking locks to get into 15 Church End, the workshop in the Woodyard, and the 126-year-old front gates of Leadenham House, also broken. They then broke into Leadenham House and went through the ground and first floors, opening drawers scattering our possessions around and leaving front and side doors open, while we were asleep. There was a light on in the hall along with other clear indications of use that this was a lived-in property. We are still assessing what is missing, but needless to say, feel both utterly violated and concerned about what further escalation may follow.

We are unable to commend the police at all in their handling of this ongoing matter so far. The incident we reported following the TikTok & Facebook post and the further break-ins it inspired was closed by the police on Friday night, 24-hours prior to this new escalation, with apparently zero investigation, saying they could neither identify people from, nor request removal of the online videos, despite the trouble they are causing and the clear ability the hosting platforms would have to provide evidence as to the user accounts. Are the police really this helpless? Visited the Sleaford Art Group’s exhibition at the Carre Gallery and were delighted to find Leadenham House depicted in such beautiful variety.

Leadenham Artisan Market Announcement:

The Fulbeck Craft Centre Monthly Artisan Market at Leadenham has now ceased. The upcoming market today, Saturday, 12th September under that banner has been cancelled.

But Leadenham’s artisan markets will continue!

Leadenham House has for years hosted successful artisan markets at Leadenham’s Day of Lincolnshire Folk and the Leadenham Christmas Market.

And of course, the Leadenham Village Post Office—initially through the Leadenham Teahouse—has also hosted, and continues to host, regular artisan pop-ups. Its separate pop-up planned for today, Saturday, 12th September, is going ahead as scheduled.

We delight in bringing together independent makers, artisans, artists, craftspeople, food producers and other small businesses in the stables and grounds of Leadenham House, and welcoming visitors from the local community and beyond to discover, enjoy and support what they create.

So, we will continue to expand our markets, although this will no longer include adopting the Fulbeck Craft Centre Artisan Market, beloved as that institution has been. New market dates in addition to the already scheduled Christmas Market on Sunday, 29th November this year will be announced here soon.

We are very grateful to everyone who has supported artisan markets at Leadenham so far. We will continue to build on that foundation and develop the Leadenham Artisan Market as a welcoming and enduring part of village and estate life.

A little safety reminder ahead of Sunday August 2nd ... 🔥

Leadenham House is looking absolutely beautiful for Day of Lincolnshire Folk 2026, but after weeks of exceptionally warm, dry weather the grass and surrounding countryside are much drier than usual.

We're asking everyone to help us look after this very special place by not smoking anywhere on site and by leaving all naked flames at home, including camping stoves, disposable barbecues and fire pits.

It only takes one stray spark to spoil what promises to be a wonderful day of music, friendship and community.

If you smoke before arriving, please make sure ci******es are completely extinguished and disposed of responsibly before coming onto the festival site.

Please don't drop cigarette ends, matches or litter on the ground, and remember that even discarded glass can increase the risk of fire in very dry conditions.

If you notice smoke or anything that doesn't look right, please let one of our friendly volunteer stewards know straight away.

18th June, 1815, Belgium…

THE BATTLE OF WATERLOO

Lt Col John Reeve earns a medal while picking up souvenirs from Napoleon’s carriage.

He brought these back to Leadenham and on the anniversary of the battle, we bring them out to celebrate our historic connection and to educate our recollection, with lunch, talks, and a tour of the collection.

We would like to thank everyone who came to our artisan Christmas market on Sunday, we couldn’t have wished for better weather and better visitors. The folk music was playing while the mulled w**e was flowing. What more could you want on such a beautiful day?

We would also like to say a huge thank you to all of the artisans and food stands that attended the event, we hope you had as much fun as we did and we look forward to seeing you all next year!
