We are constantly reminded, too, of the environmental damage that intensive food production can bring, and that, at the end of it all, the amount of food that we waste sums to more than 1% of the value of everything that the world produces. Manifestly, to use only these examples, there is a ‘food job’ to be done. The Lincolnshire Food Partnership was set up to give thought and action to these problems. Certainly, at the national and global scale we can form a view, and lobby, but critically there is action that can be taken locally. And this is a view held by our national parent body, Sustainable Food Places, which acts as an umbrella for more that 50 like-mined groups across England. We have a Mission and Aims that reflect the above concerns: our Food Strategy outlines our statement of intent, and our Board has oversight of implementing action. Since our inception at the end of 2016, our emphasis has been on the most pressing of the above needs, food poverty. We have worked closely with the County foodbanks to orchestrate food supply and resources, without displacing any of their delivery functions. Sourcing edible ‘waste’ food has been part of this, working with Fare Share, HIS Church and the Lincolnshire Coop. We also have helped to manage the central government funds set aside for food poverty brought about by COVID 19. We have sought, too, through membership of a range of bodies such as the Local Enterprise Partnership, the Lincoln Climate Commission, the County Health and Well-being Strategy and the like, to extend our local influence and convey our message. This message is given strength, too, through our extensive and active social media platforms. And we work with the education of children – the only long-term solution to change - through radical ‘food schools’ such as the Washingborough Academy. And whilst food poverty has been our most pressing issue, ultimately, the production of wholesome, fresh, local food that is good for both health and the environment, is probably our most important issue. This is why we are now embarking on the establishment of a network of community food growers across the County, under the imprimatur of Incredible Edible in Lincolnshire, to establish systems of local sustainable food, that will provide benefits in both the growing and the eating of food, for the County population. Spend your pound where your heart is.

Firstly, I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has suggested Sudbrooke as a location for a Nathan Willows Fresh Produce pop-up. The support and enthusiasm genuinely means a lot.

After giving it a lot of thought, I've decided that I won't be pursuing a regular stop in Sudbrooke.

Some people may not understand this decision, and that's absolutely fine. Business is business, after all. However, for me, business is also about relationships, loyalty and respect.

Just 2.4 miles down the road is S Sharpe & Daughter Fruit and Veg in Langworth, run by Steve and Beth. They are not only fellow greengrocers, but friends who attended my wedding nearly 11 years ago.

I simply don't feel comfortable setting up so close to a business they've worked so hard to build. That's not a reflection on Sudbrooke or the fantastic support you've shown me – it's simply a personal decision based on my own values.

Before our Cherry Willingham pop-up became part of the Saturday market, I went and spoke to Steve and Beth first and offered them the opportunity to take the pitch themselves. We continue to operate in Cherry Willingham and Nettleham with their blessing and mutual respect between our businesses.

Supporting local businesses is something I feel strongly about, and I hope you can appreciate the reasoning behind my decision.

Thank you again for all your support, understanding and encouragement. It is never taken for granted.

What you said at the Lincolnshire Food Summit 2026:

Local food infrastructure was the dominant call to action — delegates want to reconnect with the sources of their food, through food hubs in towns and villages across Lincolnshire (prioritising areas of food poverty), a Lincoln city food distribution hub, and closer links between farmers and communities.

Education was the second most cited area, with strong consensus that food growing and cooking should be embedded in schools from an early age, with paid school growers and chefs — and that community cooking and growing programmes need to include families and the wider community, too.

Cooperation and networking came through clearly — people feel that siloed working in government is a barrier, and locally, there is a strong appetite for more networking and events like this to happen, more frequently and across Lincolnshire.

Funding underpinned almost every other theme — especially for food hubs, school food, skills and community projects. In particular, people wanted training in agroecological farming to take place on farms by farmers themselves.

Policy asks: prioritise food education in the curriculum, appoint a dedicated cross-departmental Food Minister, ensure Planning supports the local food economy and community growing in urban areas — allotments and community gardens, and food space in new developments.

Thank you to the 100-odd people who joined the Lincolnshire Food Summit 2026, and contributed to an inspiring and energising day! You showed up, packed out the building, and made the place buzz with energy from across the food system - farming, health, policy, community, research, and more.

We heard from experts on UK food security and resilience, Sarah Bridle and Dominic Watters.

A panel of Lincolnshire farmers discussed the economic realities of farming, mental health and fairness, water and climate, chaired by Hannah Thorogood Inkpot Farm, with Martin Taylor Middle World Farms, Mathida Dennis, and John Turner Turners of Bytham.

Community leaders explored issues of food access and dignity, spatial planning as a public health intervention, and building community connection through food. David McAleavey, Martin Walmsley City of Lincoln Council, Harriet Atkins The Grocery at the Open Door.

As Simon Hawking Acts Trust pointed out: when organisations work together, we create new ways of thinking — and that joining the dots between services itself builds food resilience.

We are pleased to share that we are launching a monthly Community Garden Day, which will take place at the end of each month.

These sessions are designed to be community‑led and welcoming, bringing people together to help develop the garden and support wildlife‑friendly projects.

Our upcoming Community Garden Days are scheduled for:
Thursday 30 May
Thursday 27 June
Thursday 25 July
Thursday 26 September

All sessions will run from 10:00am to 12:00pm at St Christopher’s Special School Secondary Site, Hykeham Road.

Additionally we are currently looking for some support with the Hive Community Garden Project,
