Royal Air Force Coningsby’s mission: 'To develop the future, deliver the present and commemorate the past of the Royal Air Force’s combat air power’, reflects the diverse array of aircraft based here. These aircraft include Typhoon, Tornado GR4 and the wonderfully evocative Spitfires and Lancaster of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, and, of course, Typhoon, the Royal Air Force’s most modern

and versatile fighter aircraft. Coningsby and Tattershall are linked by the River Bain, one village running into the other, and though 14 miles from the nearest large town (Boston), are extremely well serviced in the rural countryside of Lincolnshire. A post office, a bank, two estate agents, various shops, takeaways and a garage are all located within Coningsby itself. The historic Tattershall Castle is a prominent feature in Tattershall village, and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight draws visitors from all over the country. Five miles northwest is the picturesque village of Woodhall Spa, with restaurants, golf and the amazing Kinema in the Woods. The market town of Horncastle is seven miles to the north and Lincoln is some twenty four miles west. RAF Coningsby has a wide range of social and sporting facilities. The Junior Ranks Complex, incorporating the Heroes Bar, Community Support Hub, Livers in Community Centre / Lounge Coffee Shop (complete with wi-fi), Spar shop, Health & Fitness suite, Mess and Cedar Bowl is situated close to the living accommodation. The Health & Fitness Suite is a well-equipped gymnasium with sauna and solarium. Other sporting facilities include the golf club, squash courts, tennis courts, Astro turf football field, large sports field and main station gymnasium. A wide range of sports clubs are run on the unit. A station barber is also found on base; a library and a 24 hour internet suite are located within Force Development Headquarters.

Service Family Accommodation (SFA) Communications Update _09 June 2026

Interim Chair of Defence Housing Service

The Defence Housing Strategy, announced in November 2025, marks the most significant transformation of Armed Forces housing in more than 50 years. It sets out an ambitious, fully funded ten-year programme to improve the homes and communities that service personnel and their families rely on every day. At the heart of this generational renewal, is the creation of a standalone professional Defence housing organisation, the Defence Housing Service.

Leading this transition is Natalie Elphicke Ross OBE, who has been appointed Interim Chair of the Defence Housing Service. Natalie previously chaired the Defence Housing Strategy Review Team and will play a crucial role in leading the transition to the new organisation, ensuring it is ready to deliver for you and your families from day one.

Once formally established in law through the Armed Forces Bill, the Defence Housing Service will take responsibility for managing nearly 50,000 military homes across the UK. Its mission includes providing safe, high-quality, and reliable housing that reflects modern military life.

Natalie’s appointment comes as the latest polling data collected by Opinion Research Services shows a rise in satisfaction among Personnel and families living in military homes.
