🐾🏅 A Very Special Honour for PD Boris 🏅🐾

Today we remember an extraordinary police dog and celebrate a very special recognition for PD Boris, who has been posthumously awarded a PDSA Commendation for bravery, dedication and devotion to duty. ❤️

Boris, a Belgian Malinois, dedicated seven years of his life to serving the people of Lincolnshire alongside his handler, PC Karl Pownall. Together, they attended hundreds of incidents, putting themselves in harm’s way to protect others and helping to bring countless dangerous situations to a safe conclusion.

One incident in particular demonstrates just what made Boris so special.

In February 2021, Boris and PC Pownall were called to a burglary where a man was attempting to force his way into a property. Inside were an elderly couple, facing an incredibly frightening ordeal.

Boris was deployed and engaged with the suspect, bringing him to the ground and allowing officers to safely arrest him. It was only afterwards that the couple discovered the suspect had been carrying a weapon.

They told officers that they believed Boris had saved their lives that night. ❤️

For a dog whose job was to run towards danger when others needed protection, those words say everything.

Boris retired from Lincolnshire Police in 2022 after seven invaluable years of service. Sadly, he passed away in September 2025, but the impact he made during his career — and the lives he helped protect — will never be forgotten.

The PDSA Commendation recognises animals whose bravery, loyalty and devotion have made a meaningful difference to the lives of others. Boris is now proudly part of that Roll of Honour. 🏅🐾

🌩️🐾 Stormy Weather Ahead! 🐾🌩️

PD Storm and his chauffeur were deployed after a vehicle had crashed and the driver had decided that he wasn’t sticking around! 🚗💨

PD Storm and his handler headed down an embankment and into the fields, where Storm quickly got to work. Tracking the male towards some nearby woodland, it wasn’t long before his nose led him to a man attempting to hide (not very successfully) up an embankment.

Storm gave him a few very clear instructions, and it didn’t take long before he was arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of dangerous driving and drink driving.

Another fantastic job by Storm, proving once again that running when there is a police dog about is rarely a successful strategy!

Well done, Storm! 🐾💙🌩️

Forever remembering PD Kolt 💙

🌈🐾 REMEMBERING PD KOLT — LINCOLNSHIRE POLICE 🐾🌈
16 October 2011 – 26 September 2020

Today we remember Police Dog Kolt, a much-loved and dedicated member of Lincolnshire Police, who died suddenly on 26 September 2020, just days before he was due to retire.

Kolt was born on 16 October 2011 and came from the last litter of police dogs bred by Lincolnshire Police. He was one of the force's “K litter” and would become the last serving police dog from that litter.

He began his operational service in January 2014, working alongside his handler, PC Chadwick, and remained operational until the day he died — more than six years of service to the people of Lincolnshire.

During those years, Kolt helped detain countless prisoners, but there was also a rather more light-hearted side to this serious working dog.

In July 2019, during the FIFA Women's World Cup, Kolt unexpectedly became a bit of an internet star. Ahead of England's semi-final, PC Chadwick asked him the all-important question:

“Is it coming home?”

Kolt responded in the only appropriate way — with a bark. 😂💙🐾

The clip was shared by the Lincolnshire Police Dog Section and attracted close to 100,000 views, even being picked up by the national press.

But Kolt's story has an incredibly sad ending.

On 26 September 2020, Kolt was due to work what would have been his final operational shift. Retirement was only days away, and afterwards he was going home permanently with PC Chadwick and his family.

Before that final shift, the pair went out for a walk.

Kolt suddenly passed away.

He was just short of his ninth birthday. The publicly available memorial records do not give a confirmed medical cause for his sudden death, so we won't speculate about why it happened.

His handler later wrote:

> “We thank Kolt for his hard work and commitment to Lincolnshire Police. He will be sadly missed by myself, my family and everyone who knew him.”

Kolt never got the retirement that was waiting for him.

He never got those years of simply being the family dog after spending his life serving.

But he was loved, he had a home waiting for him, and after more than six years of operational service, he left behind a legacy that deserves to be remembered.

Six years on, we remember PD Kolt — the last serving member of Lincolnshire Police's K litter, loyal partner to PC Chadwick, dedicated police dog and, for one glorious moment, football pundit for the Lionesses. 💙

Thank you for your service, Kolt.

Watch over your guardian until you meet again.

🎉🐾 ONE YEAR OF KOA! 🐾🎉

Happy 1st Birthday to our young recruit Koa! 🥳🐕

This handsome Dutch Herder has gone from a tiny puppy to a big, energetic one-year-old — and he’s certainly kept his handler busy along the way! 😆

He’s got a big future ahead of him as a General Purpose Police Dog, but today there’s no training, no hard work and definitely no telling him off… just birthday fuss, treats and enjoying being the birthday boy! 🎂🐾

The thoughts of all at Lincolnshire Police are with the family, friends and colleagues of PC Tom Clough and PC Matthew Blades.

The loss of two brave officers will understandably have a significant impact both at Cleveland Police and across the wider police family.

Our thoughts are with all those affected following this tragic incident.

🐾🚜 Wrong Turn… Right Dog! 🚜🐾

A report came in that a vehicle had collided with a property before its three occupants decided their best plan was to abandon the car and make a run for it across open fields. Unfortunately for them, PD Shadow was already on her way.

Fortunately for us, our Neighbourhood Policing Team were already one step ahead. They quickly gathered information from witnesses, began searching the area and guided PD Shadow and her chauffeur straight to where they were needed.

No sooner had Shadow jumped out of the vehicle than three figures were spotted sprinting across a farmer’s field. Shadow accepted the invitation to chase without hesitation.

As Shadow rapidly closed the gap, it became clear the game was up. Faced with a determined police dog who was closing in with every stride, all three males wisely decided that stopping was a much better option.

🚔 Final score: Three males in custody, one very pleased police dog, and a fantastic team effort by everyone involved.

Another reminder that running from PD Shadow rarely ends in a victory lap. 🐕💙

🌙🐾 You really don’t want to meet PD Shadow down a dark alley… 🐾🌙

Last night, one male found himself with a decision to make… and thankfully, he chose wisely.

After allegedly stealing items from a shop and reportedly being in possession of a potential weapon, the male made off on a pushbike. Officers attempted to detain him, but he was determined to keep pedalling away.

Thanks to excellent teamwork between the council CCTV operator, our Force Control Room, response officers and PD Shadow’s chauffeur, the net slowly closed around him.

With the male heading down an alleyway, PD Shadow was deployed to meet him at the other end. Faced with two options—stop and surrender, or continue towards a rather enthusiastic Belgian Malinois and her collection of very shiny white teeth—the choice suddenly became much easier.

The male was safely arrested and was also found to be wanted for failing to appear at court.

Another fantastic example of teamwork, communication and specialist resources working together to bring an incident to a safe conclusion.

And remember… if you ever find yourself in a dark alley and see PD Shadow waiting for you… it’s probably a good time to rethink your life choices. 🐕😉

⚽🐾 PD Mondo’s Man of the Match Performance 🐾⚽

The football may be over, but that didn’t stop PD Mondo putting in a performance worthy of the Man of the Match award during another busy night shift.

The first call of the night saw Mondo and his handler deployed to reports of a person attempting to break into a property while making threats with a knife.

It didn’t take Mondo long to find the back of the net. Using his exceptional nose and teamwork with his handler, he quickly located the suspect, who was challenged and safely detained by officers.

Before Mondo could collect his trophy, Team Mondo were straight back on the road to the opposite end of the county following another burglary.

Despite the long journey, Mondo wasn’t finished yet. This time, he put his nose to excellent use by locating crucial evidence, providing a superb assist to the investigating officers.

A fantastic team performance all round. As for Mondo… he’ll be celebrating and taking in the atmosphere (along with a few treats). 🏆🐕💙

🐾 Busy Nights for PD Mondo! 🐾

It’s been a busy few night shifts for PD Mondo and his handler, with plenty of opportunities to put that nose to good use.

Their first deployment was to a report of a street robbery. Mondo wasted no time, quickly locating and safely detaining one of the suspects.

The team were then called to an attempted theft of a motor vehicle involving three males. After spotting individuals matching the descriptions some distance away, Mondo joined the search. Before long, one suspect was discovered attempting to hide in undergrowth near a riverbank. As for the other two… they didn’t stay hidden for long either, and all three were arrested.

Whether it’s tracking, searching or convincing people that hiding in bushes isn’t the best escape plan, Mondo is always ready to get to work.
