Clayton Cup 9’s Round 1 – Match Report
Clayton Cup Round 1 delivered an excellent day of rugby league, with competitive fixtures, strong physicality, and plenty of attacking flair on display across all three matches.
Odiham emerged as the standout side of the day, claiming two convincing victories, ensuring they were deserving winners.
In their opening fixture, Odiham set the tone with a solid 20–10 win over Leeming. Displaying a balanced performance, Odiham combined disciplined defence with sharp attacking ex*****on, pulling clear in the second half after a closely contested opening period.
Leeming had little time to regroup before facing Coningsby, but it was Coningsby who bounced back strongest from their own opening fixture. Producing an assured performance, they defeated Leeming 20–8, maintaining control throughout and capitalising on key scoring opportunities.
The final match of the day saw Odiham take on Coningsby in what effectively became the decider. Odiham once again demonstrated their quality, delivering a dominant display to secure a 26–4 victory. Their defensive structure proved difficult to break down, while their attacking play showed creativity and clinical finishing.
Overall, it was a really positive day of Rugby League, with all teams contributing to a competitive and enjoyable tournament played in great spirit. However, Odiham’s consistency, physicality, and attacking edge ultimately set them apart, as they finished unbeaten to claim victory in Clayton Cup Round 1.
