Brilliant time at the Reform UK Party Conference today. Met some great people, paid my respects to Ann Widdecombe, and heard clear plans for what the party aims to deliver in the first 100 days of government.

What stood out most was the strong message on accountability — MPs have already signed letters of resignation if those commitments aren’t met.

A very positive and energising conference.

DON’T CUT OUR VOICES.

17 fewer councillors means bigger workloads, weaker representation and less scrutiny.

Labour is seeking to reshape Lincoln’s political landscape before the new council even begins.

Residents deserve to know why.

Keep 65. Keep Lincoln strong. Protect our democracy.

Reform UK calls for transparency over proposal to cut representation on new Lincoln Council

The Reform UK Group on the City of Lincoln Council has raised serious concerns following a letter from the Labour Leader of the Council to Government proposing that the new Lincoln Council created through Local Government Reorganisation should have 48 councillors rather than 65.

This change would remove 17 elected representatives — around 26% — from an authority expected to represent more than 151,000 electors.

Reform UK Group Leader Cllr Liam Kelly said the proposal raises important questions about fair democratic representation, particularly with some rural wards projected to have nearly 4,700 electors per councillor while other areas would have significantly greater representation.

The Group is calling for transparency, evidence, and clarity on the methodology, governance assessment, and whether political impacts were considered before the proposal was submitted to Government.

Reform UK believes every community — urban and rural — deserves fair representation, and that Local Government Reorganisation should strengthen local democracy, not weaken residents’ voices.

The Group has requested the supporting evidence from the Council and will challenge the proposed reduction through the democratic process.

🌊 Keeping Safe Around Open Water

Our waters may look inviting, but hidden dangers can be deadly.

Yesterday at Hartsholme Park, the Lincolnshire Water Safety Partnership hosted an important event to highlight the risks around open water.

I joined John Hardy from Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue to share lifesaving advice with residents — great to see continued improvements in water safety locally, and great to be there talking with John about the work being done.

If you ever see someone in difficulty, remember: Phone, Float, Throw

With summer in full swing, we're helping people be safer around open water by sharing potentially lifesaving advice and information through the Water Safety Partnership.

Last week, we were out at the Millennium Green, and this week we’re at Hartsholme Park along with some of our partners.

📍Hartsholme Park, LN6 0EY - Wednesday 19 August – 10am to 2pm

Come along and chat to our team around open water safety, and what to do in an emergency.

Remember, if you see someone in difficulty in the water: Phone, Float, Throw

📱 Phone 999
🛟 Encourage them to Float on their back
🆘 Throw them something to help them float or pull them in
❌ Never enter the water to carry out a rescue yourself.

🚨 Emergency Throwline Stations – Supporting Safety Around Hartsholme & Swanholme Lakes

As part of our ongoing work to improve water safety across Hartsholme and Swanholme, this is one of the Emergency Throwline stations now in place around the lakes.

These stations provide vital life‑saving equipment that can be used immediately in an emergency, with clear instructions on contacting 999, quoting the location code, and safely deploying the throwline without entering the water.

If you ever notice damage, vandalism, or a station that isn’t functioning correctly, please report it so it can be addressed quickly.

Local Highways Improvement Update 🚧✅
A quick update on some recent highways and footway improvements in the area:

✅ New white road markings have now been painted along Bucknall Avenue, including on the speed bump, helping to improve visibility and road safety.

✅ Footpath reconstruction works at Ashby Avenue and Wyville Walk have now been completed and are looking excellent, providing a much-improved surface for residents and pedestrians.

🚧 Work is also continuing on Scawby Crescent, with improvements progressing well.
Thank you to everyone involved in delivering these improvements for our community.
